Nero Media Home continues running after being closed

If I do not close down Media Home 2018, but leave it running overnight, then close it the next day, I find a piece of it is still running and using almost 25% of my cpu time.  Trying to use Task Manager to stop it does nothing, it just continues to run.  I'm using Windows 10 Pro latest version.  Thanks

  • Hi Frank-

    Please go here-

    C:\Users\"your user name"\AppData\Local

Rename the Nero folder to Nero1 and the Nero_AG folder to Nero_AG1 and restart Nero MediaHome. In Options, Library, manually add the folders which contain the files that you most frequently work with or you want to work with.

    Does that help?

  • I'm somewhat concerned about about doing these steps. Between them these two files contain almost 12 GB of data for various parts of Nero. Will this cause other parts of Nero problems when they run?

  • Frank,

The renaming of these folders is a "shot in the dark" that sometimes "fixes" problems with MediaHome. However, I agree that the entire consequences of doing it have not been revealed that I know of.

    Installation Issues

Help with installation issues can be obtained directly from Nero by using the email contact form at Technical Support via e-mail. This requires a valid product serial number which has the form XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX (8 groups of 4 characters/digits separated by dashes. Note: The serial number will not have the letter 'O'. Since this is a public forum, DO NOT post your serial number. If your serial number is not accepted, use the contact form at Nero Customer Service.
Or, choose Tech Support or Customer Service

  • It's not going to affect other parts of Nero. I've done the operation at least a couple of times. That reminds me, I need to get rid of the old files.

    • It isn't going to affect the functionality of any other Nero app. When he restarts it, new folders are regenerated. Any references to files in the NMH database, possibly in Nero Video, will be lost. End of subject for me. I know you'll go on about it. Let Frank go to tech support if he doesn't want to try it.
    • Wither 1,

Well, thank you for the invite! I did look back and found an old post that included a recommendation from Tech Support in the person of Dirk Tillinger. It is clearly an over-the-top workaround! He may be prone to "nuclear" type "solutions" since he recommended that I reinstall Windows years ago to fix what was clearly a Nero bug. He used one of your favorite phrases - "It's a system issue".

      A brief synopsis:

An issue with Nero 11 Recode was reported to Tech Support sometime before March 3, 2012.

On March 20, after weeks of back and forth, I received "This brings me to the same point as we were before. It seems that it is a System issue and you should consider to reinstall your Windows System completely new."

On March 22, with intervening mention of forum posts, he actually followed the instructions, replicated the problem, and stated, "I have now provide those information and your file to our developer so that they can reprocude this issue also and hopefully find the answer to this wierd behavior of Nero Recode."

I hope that you will cease proclaiming to users that they have a "system problem", etc.

I also request that you actually examine the contents of the folders you recommend deleting, noticing that it's not just Nero MediaHome and Nero Video that use those folders. Afterwards, perhaps you could discuss the issue with your high-level Nero contacts and have them post a less dramatic solution, or even fix the bug causing these Nero databases to become corrupted.
