I’m frustrated

Nero Mediahome server inspecting folders it shouldn't have access to and eating processor.

Whenever I am transferring files to the computer where Mediahome server is installed, NMMediahomeserver.exe starts eating processor resources, during transfer - which slows down everything, and it doesn't seem to matter that the files aren't being transferred into folders listed in Mediahome server.

  • Hello Duane-

If it's doing that when Nero MediaHome isn't open, then you have Nero MediaHome starting when you boot your computer.

Go to Options, Streaming. Uncheck the box for Start Nero MediaHome on Windows Startup.

You might also want to run msconfig.exe and disable any Nero MediaHome items in both Services and Startup.

  • Not helpful, but thank you, I actually want it to be running and doing it's job. However, I don't feel it needs to be monitoring activity in folders other than the ones specified in the "Shares: Local Folders" section. My opinion says it has no business outside of there.

  • What it's doing is looking at the folders that are specified in the Library.
    • I was in a big hurry to get out of here last night, thus my short answer. NMH monitors what's in the Library. If you have folders, a drive or a partition in the Library, it's going to scan it for media each time it starts. If you're adding files to anything it's monitoring, the same thing occurs. I figured you would get the big picture and remove a drive or partition and manually add only the folders that contain your most frequently used files.

  • Either I am not being clear enough or reading comprehension skills aren't up to scratch on the responders part.
    I'll try another method:
Lets call a monitored folder "M:\Movies\Monitored" for the purpose of this example where "Monitored" is a listed/monitored folder in Library. "M:\Movies\" is not monitored or listed in the Library, and is where I happen to be loading from another computer.
While I am doing this loading/transferring, I am watching processes load up past 50% with NMH, during the entire transfer, and then it stops at the end of the transfer, whereas it might blink any other time of the day.
Are you trying to claim that NMH is going to monitor a parent folder, even though it isn't listed in the Library? Should I be loading into, say, "M:\Transfer\", outside of the parent folder, and then moving at a later date?
If so, I would call that a bug that needs to be fixed, because that is totally unnecessary and uncalled for in any stretch of my imagination.

  • I wasn't trying to claim anything about the parent folder. I didn't have those details until now. You're correct, it shouldn't be doing what you're seeing. The only possible causes I can see is that you might have Classic selected as the browsing mode in the Streaming options or you have iTunes or Windows Media Player folders in your Movies folder and you have the option to automatically add them to watched folder in the Library options.

If neither one of those is the case, then I suggest that you go here-

    http://www.nero.com/enu/support/conta...

    and submit the contact form.

If you do, please let me know what they have to say.

  • The software that I am using is Nero Mediahome 4 Essentials. I cannot find any reference to Classic browsing in any Options, Streaming or otherwise. Should I be looking somewhere else? Is there a better version?
I don't use iTunes and WMP doesn't use any of the folders that I give to NMH to monitor.

  • That version goes back about 9 years ago and tech support quit supporting it probably sometime in 2011 or 2012. In v10, Nero started MediaHub which replaced what you have but it became a media management software in addition to the streaming function. They renamed it KwikMedia and then, for some reason, started calling it Nero MediaHome. Causes all kinds of confusion.

I don't know if I have NMH 4 installed on my other hard drive. Would have to boot to it. I had it installed on this drive way back when so I could help people with it but uninstalled it. There was a whole section on NMH 4 in the old forum but, unfortunately, we're no longer able to access it.

Since you have an Essentials version, I don't what options are missing. I also don't know if you have v4.5.8. That was the last update. However, there is nothing in the release notes in regards to your problem and the help file doesn't show me any options for preventing the problem. If I have time tomorrow, I'll boot to my other system and see if I can fire it up.

  • It's version 4.5.20.45

I have Nero 2017 Platinum but it isn't installed on the computer that I would run NMH. Is there a way to just install the current whatever only from that on this computer? Do I need to purchase the newest nonsense to get past this problem as a separate license?
This computer has Nero 12 installed on it, so I see the KwikMedia there, but I never bothered to play with it. I also own a copy of Nero 2015, I think it's installed on something around here...

  • You didn't answer my question.

As I mentioned earlier, Kwik Media became Nero MediaHome (that's what you'll see when you launch KwikMedia). However, if you installed v2015, the v12 version would be unusable. You would have to use the version in v2015. If you installed v2017, the. same thing would happen to v2015. You would have to use the version in v2017. That's because NMH is shared commonly in every version starting with v10. Once again, we're not talking about a pure streaming software like NMH 4.

  • To answer your question: I don't see the option.

My goal with the software as it pertains to this particular computer is to be a streaming source. I have more powerful computers (that have more comfortable seating) to do the various editing, etc. Just streaming on this one.

Like I said, this computer has v12 installed, but I never activated/opened KwikMedia. I have been using NMH4e, and it has done well, just annoying while I am transferring software and trying to get other things done on it as well.

  • My version has something called Shared Directories. It's on my other computer so I'll have to look at it tomorrow.

  • I haven't forgotten you. It turns out that v8 uses NMH 3. For some reason, I can't find my serial number for NMH 4, even though I've had it installed before. Hopefully, I can reconcile that tonight.
