Nero Video 2019 Incorrectly Imports VOBs After Making Them

I've recently made an 11h10m DVD structure on my hard drive using Nero Video 2019, version 20.00.3010. Today, I tried importing the VOBs into a DVD project and found the durations of 3 of 5 VOBs to be incorrect. I subsequently checked the duration of each VOB in a number of programs. Other programs import the VOBs correctly. I've zipped up the folder containing the DVD structure and uploaded it to OneDrive. I'd like to know if this problem exists on other systems (2019 and 2020) or if there is a problem with my installation. Please download, unzip, and import into Nero Video if you have a few minutes.

  • I can verify your results in both v2015 and v2019. Doesn't matter what I set the recording format options to. Also, if I say yes in the Content screen to it's offer to change the project to fit the disc, nothing appears to happen. Not sure what it could do when the settings are SLP and minimium bitrate.

If I set SmartStart to disabled, it looks like it won't import any of the files. Not sure if I needed to wait longer. I only let it go a few minutes.

If I accept the offer to merge the titles, it then creates a title which is 9 hours 55 minutes. On a whim, I decided to see what happens if I burn this project ( also added a couple of chapter markers and used titles and chapters menus. The duration of the project was shown as previously mentioned in the burn screen. I started that yesterday afternoon. Around 8 PM it said it still had 11 hours to go so I aborted the process.

I went out to have a beer and cigar. After that, I sat down to read the newspaper while still thinking about this. I decided to try it in v9. When I did (with SLP selected), it imported the files in their entirety but still warned and showed that the project was too large for the disc. The project was shown as roughly 11.2 hours. I decided to burn it and in the burn screen it gave the standard warning about possibly having a problem after burning. It burned the project in about 90 minutes.

During playback in Nero MediaHome, all the files are shown to be the correct duration.

What's interesting is that the size of the large files are shown as 621 MiB in MediaInfo so more compression was done in this process.

I decided to try importing them into other versions. v10 was the same as v9. For some reason, v11 and v12 both tell me my project is too large and I need to do something to slim it down so the files won't import enmasse. I'll work on that some more.

  • Wither 1,

Thank you for trying this. I'm not sure what the value would be to look back at older versions. If you would try Nero 2020 Video, that might help.

Incidentally, the DVD Structure imports into Nero 2019 Recode, showing the correct total length:

  • I was going to try Recode but the subject is Nero Video. I'll give it a go in v2020 even though, from what I can tell, changes to v2020 are window dressing. Nero claims they've made the apps "zippier" but I don't see anything like that with the exception that when I did try it, it imported those files much faster than any other version. By the way, v14 behaves the same as v2015 and v2019.

Addendum: I tried it in v2017 and v2020 and the results are the same as in v14, v2015 and v2019. v2017 was extremely slow in importing the files but it may be because I ran it last and I may have needed to do a disk cleanup to get of temporary files. Not sure what they changed in going from Nero Vision to Nero Video.

  • From what I can see, you should submit this problem via feedback@nero.com. Since5.5 is the only one at Nero who looks at this forum and it's quite apparent he's not been watching it.

I was looking over this topic and noticed that you stated that the files sizes shown in Nero MediaHome were incorrect:

During playback in Nero MediaHome, all the files are shown to be the correct duration.

What's interesting is that the size of the large files are shown as 621 MiB in MediaInfo so more compression was done in this process.

They are shown correctly on my system:

  • I don't see where I said the "size" of the files were incorrect in Nero MediaHome. Maybe I need another cup of coffee.

  • Wither 1,

I misread your post. Sorry. But, same story with MediaInfo:

  • As mentioned, the size of my final files were consistent but reduced but the durations were fine, in MediaInfo.

  • That was with encoding separate titles. As I mentioned, I used SLP which sets the bitrate to the minimum and the resolution to 352x... In MediaInfo, the bit rate is 555 kb/s.
