Argentan,
Normally, I would suggest uploading the file so that others might try, but 12 GB!
Nero version?
Do you have problems with other .mp4 files?
If you have Recode, can you import it there?
If you have another converter such as the free Handbrake, can you import it there?
Here's an ~800 MB .mp4 file.
Source of the file? GoPro, perhaps? -
-
Are you working in the Advanced editing or Express Editing? In either case, all you'll see is the first frame. What happens if you play it?
Perhaps you'll provide a screenshot.-
Hello Wither 1. Glad to see you.
I'm always working in Advanced editing mode. If i play this video in Nero integrated player, then the video plays fine, but does not display its duration.
In system all video players see and play this file correctly.
Screenshot 1 - when i trying add video at time line

Screenshot 2 - when i played it in Nero integrated player
http://i63.fastpic.ru/big/2015/0301/c...
On those screenshots i trying add another video captured via AverMedia LGP, with changed capturing video bitrate (30Mbps)
P.S.
I don't have any troubles with video processing those files in any other video editor -

If you zoom in on the time line by moving the slider at the bottom of the screen to the right, can you grab the right edge of the video and expand it?

Please explain how Argentan goes about exporting a file that he claims can't be imported.

I use also SonyVegas and Cyberlink Powerdirector (as other "video editors"), they work with those files perfectly. -

He posted a screenshot which shows it's on the timeline. It's just not showing it correctly.

Ok, i tried exporting this frame ... i got file with size 2Kb and 0 seconds duration. -

Tried to uninstall program and reinstall it ... now this piece of s**t told me "failure to install".
I delete ALL NERO entries on drive C:, all NERO entries in register ... and trying install one more time - "failure to install".
I download file one more time from http://www.nero.com/rus/downloads/, trying to install - "failure to install".
How can I get my money back ?! -
-
To get your money back, you have to submit the problem to technical support and they will have to declare that they can't resolve your problem.
-
Wither 1
I understand it) just thinking out loud ...
but just i already know, that to expect answer from them at least a week. "Awesome" tech support ... don't take it personally. You was realy helpful. Thank's a lot for help with "AdvrCntr6.dll" problem
But i realy regret that spent money on the product of this company ... and so much time was wasted. -
-
-
-
-
You're ok. I didn't take anything as personal, especially since I don't work for Nero (some people would dispute that since I've been in the forum almost daily for over
6 1/2 years).
I always go into a mode of trying to help someone rather than sending them to tech support. If I had asked you to do that 5 days ago, you might have an answer already. Unless I missed it, I don't see where you mentioned submitting the problem to them. -

It appears Nero Video 2018 still has this issue importing some video mp4 files. The problem seems to be the container decoding. I have both fHD and 4K footage that won't import taken with a cell phone. I found an "easy" work around:
Download and install VLC v3 or newer. You may need to look in the nightlies as 2.2 is offered on the main page. http://nightlies.videolan.org
Run VLC and click on Media - Convert/Save
Add your video files to the list and click the Convert/Save button.
Click on add new Profile (third button over in the middle) and give it a name like Fix.
Select MP4/MOV as your encapsulation
On the Video codec and Audio codec tabs check "Video" or "Audio" and "Keep original video (audio) track", then click save (You only need to create a profile the first time.)
Make sure your profile is selected on the screen you returned to.
Optionally check the Append filename option and then click Start.
It will then convert your files one by one. No transcoding is needed, just copying the data to a new file. This is a pretty fast process and isn't lossy. Thereafter you should be able to edit the converted files in Nero!-
Lars,
I've imported and played your video on MANY apps other than those from Nero. Since5.5 (Employee) or another employee may download your video and confirm the issue. It may be helpful to provide the phone model? -
-
-
-
-
-
-
I have both Nero Video 2018 and Suite 10 Platinum installed. Both are up to date. I needed 2018 to edit 4K content and make use of GPU transcoding acceleration that no longer worked in V10 with Windows 10. Never had import issues in V10.
I own versions going back to 5 or 6. -
-
Would you upload one of the problem files to a cloud service and provide a link to it?
Nero Video normally uses software for transcoding. However, you can specify hardware acceleration when exporting to AVC. That depends on the version of Nero you're using and the graphics card model\driver. -
-
This is from the same phone so it should have the issue.
https://1drv.ms/v/s!AnB8DSO3Fi3IioQnT...
The cuda driver stopped working after creators update. I tried all kinds of things including patching the video driver manually and the using the development kit. Finally just bought the new version of Nero and transcoding went from 20 hours on my i5 back to one hour when using about 100 cores on my card. -
-
I tried the file in v10, v12 and v2015 (I'm not on my system with v2016 and later). It only opened in v10. It looks like the video has a 4K resolution. I'm sure it could be converted to work with v2018 but one shouldn't need to do that. I'm getting ready to put a paint brush in my hands in a few minutes so not doing much more in the forum this morning.
You should run this by tech support.
Unrelated to this, what is your graphics card? -
-
1080 from the same source also has the issue. Opens fine in Nero vision 10 as you say. My VLC fix works though with 2018.
I have an Nvidia gt640 (384 shaders), couple of monitors, core i5, 512gb SSD, some larger platter drives and some bd burners. Only 4gb ram been meaning to up that a bunch. -
-
-
-
I mentioned 4k because it shows as 3840x 2160 in MediaInfo.
I had tried to convert it to mpeg-4 this morning using the convert/save feature in VLC Player this morning and it would only encode it as an audio file. Nero MediaHome in v2018 also plays it as an audio file. Windows Media Player plays it just fine.
It's quite obvious that a Video Codec with ID 1 (AVC) doesn't work in v11 through v2018. Unfortunately, no one in this thread who wishes to edit or burn this type of video has either addressed it with tech support or is willing to share what tech support has had to say. Maybe you would be the first?
I asked about your graphics card because a couple of years ago, NVIDIA changed it's drivers to disable the use of CUDA for hardware acceleration. It caused Nero and other similar software vendors to take issue with it. NVIDIA then changed it's drivers for the 600 and later series cards to re-enable the CUDA use. I have a GTX 560 in my other system and I use an older driver to get around that issue. -
-
I submitted a request. We'll see what transpires.
That was pretty bad how NVIDIA pulled CUDA support. Patching the DLL manually wasn't reliable. Originally I thought that was my trouble with GPU rendering and possibly was. With Windows 10 v1703 MS moved to WDDM2.2 which required video drivers to support it. Everyone was scrambling to fix that. Intel simply left some GPU's unsupported so those people are completely out of luck. I figured the easiest way to fix GPU rendering was to try a new version of Nero. I think GPU rendering is more standardized now and built into Windows. Even MS Movie Maker can take advantage of it. Nero was really a pioneer back then.- view 1 more comment

I got a response that they were escalating it to the next level.

Lars,
For the most part, my experience with Tech Support sending issues to the next level or off to the developers is covered by the Wiki topic File 13. Good luck! -

Summary
Lars reported being unable to import videos recorded on his Android 7.1 Moto Z2 Play phone. He was able to find a workaround by remuxing the video using VLC Player and has subsequently submitted a report to Nero Tech Support.
For anyone interested in testing/comparing the two:
Lars' original [~115 MB]
VLC output [~115 MB]. -

I wonder what is different in the header on the VLC outputed file? That might point to the problem that Nero is having.
-
-
-
-
Here is what has changed in the two files. I made a spreadsheet.
https://1drv.ms/x/s!AnB8DSO3Fi3IipE60... -

I think the difference is the change from the aforementioned AVC1 codec. After Omega Tester's comment, I upgraded to VLC Player 3.00. It doesn't play the video any better than the older version (2.2.26). On the other hand, I don't have Win 10 so I don't have directx 12 and other enhancements.
-
Wither 1,
What are you referring to? The videos have all used the codec 'avc1'. Here's another: Remux by FFMPEG. It is also specifies 'AVC1' for the video codec. It plays in Nero MediaHome. It can be imported into Nero 2018 Video and Recode. Here's a screenshot of Nero Video:

The only reason I specified v3 of VLC is that it can batch convert many clips at once. V2 can only do one clip at a time because of a bug in the naming of the output files. The process is otherwise identical. Took me a bit to figure that problem out.

-
Wither 1,
You haven't answered my questions! So, I'll try to summarize the difficulties I've had understanding what it is you've been saying.
16 days ago, you said, " I'm sure it could be converted to work with v2018 but one shouldn't need to do that.". Now that you've confirmed the bug exists, will you be using your extraordinary access to high-level Nero personnel to get Lars some genuine help from someone that knows what they're doing?
Also, 16 days ago, you said,"I had tried to convert it to mpeg-4 this morning using the convert/save feature in VLC Player this morning and it would only encode it as an audio file" Now that you have an updated version of VLC Player, are you able to use Lars' clear instructions to convert his video?
And also, 16 days ago, you said, "It's quite obvious that a Video Codec with ID 1 (AVC) doesn't work in v11 through v2018.". 3 days ago, "An interesting thing is that G-Spot reports that the video codec is AVC1. MediaInfo doesn't show that.". It appears that you have misinterpreted the first two lines of the MediaInfo video data. For some reason, you've associated the 'ID: 1' with the 'Format: AVC'. That's not correct. Also, MediaInfo clearly specifies the video codec as 'avc1' as you say G-Spot does. Yet, you claim they report different codecs. Please explain. -
-
lars has already requested tech support. I don't bother Nero in these situations.
AVC1 is shown as the codec in G-Spot. As you know, I wasn't using the latest version of VLC Player and there's no need for me to redo what others have done.
Finally got the computer room in the basement painted. looks great. Got my taxes done today. Tomorrow looks like a golf day. Punxatawny (sic) Phil really missed it. The hell with Nero.-
Wither 1,
And the dance continues! G-Spot is apparently correctly identifying the video as 'avc1'. But, contrary to what you've stated, so does MediaInfo as I have shown above. So does VLC as I have shown above. And, so does XMedia Recode:
So, once again, what do you mean when you say, "I think the difference is the change from the aforementioned AVC1 codec."? -

kind of. :)

Lars,
Actually, there are quite a number of very tiresome themes that occur frequently in this form (and the old Nero forum) besides your child's practice session! :--}
As in many other topics, there is misinformation being presented in this topic which is probably quite obvious to you (and to anyone else carefully reading it). That's to be expected in a user forum. The tiresomeness results from the absolute refusal to acknowledge the errors. For another example see topic I have Nero 11 and 12. How do I burn song tracks with normalized volume onto a USB stick instead of a disc.. -

BWAAA HAHA this is why it's worthless to report issues to them and why you never hear back from people about tech support:
Dear Mr / Mrs Dennert,
Thank you for contacting Nero.
Please note that your support ticket NERO-180211-0036 has now been closed, as it has not been updated in the last 14 days.
If you still encounter issues with the use of your Nero product, please create a new support request.- view 2 more comments

Update,
No improvement using Nero 2018 Video, version 19.1.3014 to import Lars' file. . Imports as an audio. Same with Nero MediaHome, version 3.8.1015, and Nero Recode, version 19.1.1012. -
-
Lars,
It appears that Nero is making progress on this issue. See topic Nero 2018 imports .mp4 files as Audio instead of Video. In that topic, Since5.5 (Employee) posted, "Dear All, our engineers have checked the file and provided the following feedback: There are duplicated PixelAspectRatioBox defined in Header info VisualSampleEntryBox. In this case our decoder ignores the video track. We will change this for the next major version of the Nero Suite. Until than you will have to live with the workaround. I have asked the engineers to also check "Lars's file" from the other entry mentioned here" -
-
Thanks for that. I don't know if I moved my hosted linked files. I have a short attention span. I shot a couple of hours of 4k underwater footage and edited a 10 minute short with Nero. The portion shot with my Sony camera worked great in Nero.
-
Lars,
There's no need to do anything. I confirmed that the problem with your file is identical and can be played in Nero after one of the PixelAspectRatioBox entries is eliminated. -

Sorry, it's about Nero Video 2015
No, this video was captured via AverMedia Live Gamer Portable.
Right now i have same problem with all .mp4 captured via AverMedia LGP software. And this problem only with Nero.
Other video editors works fine with those video files.
It seems the program does not see the video length.
Your video file was imported correctly
P.S. all other .mp4 files, from other sources importing without any troubles
No, I didn't write to support service. The last time the answer came with a delay of 8 days after the request. On this forum I get help faster, I think.
I recoded a few video files:
https://yadi.sk/i/QfHMa8h4exrwC - 8 sec duration (31 Mb)
https://yadi.sk/i/rSogaZveexrx3 - 26 sec duration (95 Mb)
https://yadi.sk/i/r9blaD-_exrxs - 27 sec duration (99 Mb)
and now, all of them can't place at time line ... wth ...
video with this issue - https://yadi.sk/i/6WxeWcngexs4Y (47 Mb)
I was able to import all three files into Handbrake (a free tool) and convert them to both MP4 and MKV files. The Handbrake output files import without problems into Nero 12 Video, Nero 2014 Video, and Nero 2015 Video. The original files have problems in all three versions as you have described.
I can only suggest techsupport@nero.com. Have you written to them?
I have converted your files with the free VLC Player and Nero Recode; they all import into Nero Video without problems.
You see ... converting takes time (and larger files require more time only for converting process), but I bought this program for accelerated video processing and and quick merging multiple audio and video files
No, I didn't write to support service. The last time the answer came with a delay of 8 days after the request. On this forum I get help faster, I think.
Well, as i see i don't another choice, but to write them.
But right now it was felt that it is a waste of time and I had wasted money on this program...
What exactly are you saying?
Apparently because you saw the codec id 'avc1', you referenced this topic from topic MP4 FILE FREEZES IN NERO VIDEO posted by Don Rosen. That prompted Don to comment here. In your reply to him, you said, ""Later in this thread, Lars went to tech support on this issue with the AVC1 codec but didn't reply to me in my last post of this thread."".
The irony here is almost unbelievable! There has never been "an issue with the AVC1 codec" as was pointed out months ago. And yet, you refer Don here because his video references an avc1 codec id?
Now, I would point out that one major "trouble with this forum" is demonstrated by this nonsense. In this topic, you stated, "An interesting thing is that G-Spot reports that the video codec is AVC1. MediaInfo doesn't show that.". As was pointed out to you, MediaInfo produced the same result as G-Spot (v2.70a - 22 Feb 2007 - Current Version!).
In other words, you convinced yourself that there's an 'avc1 issue' (just one of many, many examples) and there's no convincing you otherwise (just one of many, many examples).
