I have a Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle, which I use to capture HDMI source material. Nero sees this device as available for capture, but does not seem able to select the correct source input. Therefore it cannot be used to transcode this on the fly (for example to H.264 or MPEG-2).
The device itself can capture to either uncompressed frames or Motion JPEG. However, Nero Video nor Nero Recode is able to process these files. By using Linux to transcode to .MP4 I can work around the problem, but the end result is much worse than if I could just utilise Nero's transcoding instead.

Nero Video suite does not handle uncompressed or Motion JPEG source material

I asked Mister_M if he would look at your question. Hopefully, he will have time.

First: What version of Nero do you use?
Second: I tested an MJPEG file, that I made with MSI Raptor (part of MSI Afterburner).
In Nero 2015 and 2016 this MJPEG video can be edited and transcoded into other formats without any problem with Nero Video and Recode.
So it's necessary, that you upload a short video file for us so that we can test it.- view 1 more comment

Where I looked was in All Supported Files when importing a file into Nero Video. That format and some of the other formats in the list you provided are also not there.

Thanks for your reply! I have used both Nero Video 2015 and 2016, with similar results. Nero Recode (which seems to have a different codebase to both) 2015 and 2016 both do not work. Where recoding does work, there are sync issues.
I am uploading a file (5GB, 15 minutes, MJPEG, 1280x720p50) to DropBox right now. When you add this file to Nero Video, the first frame shows up, but double-clicking leave the play window blank. When you drag it to the timeline, the clip shows up and plays. However, exporting to MPEG-4 gives an indication of 6hrs transcoding, and rapidly climbs to 23 hours and beyond.
Once the upload finishes, I'll add the URL to this message. -

Ronald,
I've downloaded your video and played it in all of the players I have. In all Nero applications (and QuickTime), there was no audio. It played fine in all of the rest. Using the free MediaInfo program (available here), I found that the audio has 24 bits. I used the free XMedia Recode program (available here), to convert the audio to 16 bits while maintaining the video as it was (copied). That file worked in Nero applications.
Here is the MediaInfo program output for the original file and the XMedia Recode output file:
I repeated the XMedia Recode operation, saving only 10 seconds starting at 00:10:00:000 and uploaded it: 10 Second Snippet from XMedia Recode [60 MB].
It appears from your post that you were able to get audio since you've said that the sync was bad. Am I getting that right?- view 1 more comment

yes, this is exactly the same behaviour as I get. I cannot trim the video in the preview window.

Interesting! I never would have guessed that the audio bitness would play a part in this video working or not! I'll do some tinkering with audio settings and see if that makes a difference.

Syncing at one second intervals is bound to have some sync issues down the line, especially it is not an exact number of video frames.

Ronald,
As I said above, I really know nothing of the internals of these video files. So, I looked and found an overview at what is avi?:
.
I have no idea if the information is entirely accurate (as with all other "Googled info).
Hopefully, Mister_M will enlighten us. In any case, it appears that the Nero programs (and QuickTime) are not interpreting something correctly.
Have you asked Nero Technical Support about this? -

What's interesting is that Ronalds file plays perfectly in ShowTime (part of v9). However, neither Nero Vision in v9 nor any other version of Nero Vision or Nero Video I tried, plays the audio.
