Nero11- Advanced Editing-Properties Pallete-Scale-Clarification

I have appended below two videos, burned as .vob files, one made with Fit To Screen option in Properties Pallete Scale (STD1_FTS) & another with Scale & Fit option(STD1_S&F) both made with TV Standard Resolution ie 1st one.

If I view these files in my 21" Sony TV in FTS option I could be able to see full movie without any truncation but with all four sides black border in screen ,which I dislike.

Hence I burned in Scale & Fit option, Now I'm getting full screen but oragne T shirt wearing person on right hand side who is playing is getting cut from view.

I tried in wide and all available resolution formats but effect same. This also you could see only in TV but in PC you can see full picture without any cutting. Why?What I'm supposed to do for full screen complete viewing in TV without border blacklines?

  • Vedanarayanan,

It appears that you have a 4:3 aspect ratio video within a 16:9 aspect ratio project.

  • One thing I can say. I edited and burned in 4:3 aspect ratio ie. waht I have mentioned STD1 ie TV Standard 4:3 resolution. But within 16:9 I don't get

  • Vedanarayanan,

In your initial posting, you said, "I'm getting full screen but oragne T shirt wearing person on right hand side who is playing is getting cut from view.

I advanced each video to ~5 second point and I only see a scaled version of the same picture:

I'm not understanding your last post.

Please double-click on your original video on the video tab in the Nero Video editor, select Metadata, and post a screenshot of the dialog. Also, a screenshot of your Movie Options might be helpful.

  • Veranarayanan,

Another issue that may be involved here is the modifications made by YouTube to 4:3 aspect ratio videos. MediaHome would give a more accurate presentation.

Here is a sequence of screenshots of MediaHome. Note that if Fit to Screen is used, the video is scaled so that each edge is within the border. If Scale and Fit is used, the video is scaled so that the screen is filled.

  • 1) Probably you would have seen in laptop. In my laptop also it is as you have seen or said only, without any cutting/truncation of orange T shirt person.

But my statement is you burn in DVD & play in TV. You can see the difference I said.

    2) You have mentioned about Media-home. Media home also in my lap only & I get same output as you have mentioned.

3)You tube conversion does not come into picture because I have only uploaded for you.My contention is change/truncation happens only after burning and viewing in TV.

    4) On you tube also your sample does not show how Scale & Fit will come.

    5) Fit to scale Metadata screen shot below

    6) Scale and Fit Metadata screenshot below

    7) Movie Options screenshot below

    8) In above samples you have mentioned 'Project' & 'Picture'. What it means and what is the difference?

  • Vedanarayanan,

You have shown that you are using 4:3 Movie Options, not 16:9. In my examples, 'project' refers to the Movie Option I have chosen for the example. I have shown 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratio pictures within 4:3 and 16:9 projects.

After you've made your DVD, it can be played within Nero MediaHome on your laptop or on your TV. Is there a difference?

It would help if you could post MediaInfo data for you source video or even upload an example to one of the cloud services and provide a link here.

  • Yes. I have made 4:3 Project with 4:3 aspect ratio and that is what I have uploaded. This one if played in Mediahome complete picture without truncation/cutting in full screen without any blackbars but same picture with truncation in my TV even if i load it in pendrive and play or burn and play. I'm not worried about blackbars since it is not coming if I select Scale & Fit option, getting full screen and that's why I'm so vigorously behind this to get full screen at the same time full picture without cutting.

And also same above movie I have made in 16:9 Project with 4:3 aspect ratio also and result is same as above. Mediahome play ok, TV play getting cut.

And last one if I click above Posting mediainfo data it goes somewhere user name creation confusion or something.

Also let me know how to get Mediainfo of my source video

  • Vedanarayanan,

You do not need a password to download the above file. Simply click on the link, then download. Open the downloaded .zip file in File explorer and extract all. The resulting folder will contain:

    1. A short video with an aspect ratio of 4:3 and a resolution of 640x480.
    2. Four NTSC DVD-Video structures.
    3. Four PAL DVD-Video structures.

To play the structures, open Nero MediaHome nad then drag/drop the appropriate folder onto it.

All eight DVD-Video projects use the short 4:3 video as the source.

There are two 4:3 NTSC DVD projects, one using FTS, the other SandF. the same is true for the PAL format.

Similarly, there are two 16:9 NTSC DVD projects, one using FTS, the other SandF. the same is true for the PAL format.

I have assumed that your source files have the 4:3 aspect ratio. Have you been able to get the MediaInfo program?

If you want to upload files to the Nero cloud, that would require you to have your own free Nero BackItUp account.

I played above file of yours in my TV. Absolutely OK wherever I played laptop Media home or my TV. Playing beautifully in full screen mode without any flaw.Hence I presume no issue with my TV settings, some issue with creation I hope.

STD1_S&F which I uploaded earlier and you played and checked is similar to your above creation in PAL S&F 4X3. But this creation of mine is not playing properly. I checked again.

However I have given below the Mediainfo as you have asked. Kindly go through & give your feedback.

  • Vedanarayanan,

I've done a side-by-side comparison of the MediaInfo data from your .VOB and mine. I don't see any differences that aren't due to the duration of the video or are otherwise insignificant as far as I know.

Have you tried making a new DVD using my source file?

Also, if you import my 4:3 video into a 4:3 DVD project, it "Fit to screen" and "Scale and fit" have the same effect.

Have you looked at the MediaInfo for your source video? Maybe you could post that?

  • I made DVD of your source file and it is fine.

Also your source file is OK in both FTS & S&F except a thin black line on both sides in FTS. Other wise both are same and OK.

    I noticed one thing.Will it matter?My source file in Original size & FTS in Horizontal & Vertical measurements are 75 & 100 & in S&F 100 & 133.33

whereas your source file in Original size 100X100,FTS-120X120,S&F-122.73X122.73

If it matters what to do?How to correct?
    • Vedanarayanan,

For some reason I thought you were working with 4:3 aspect ratio source files, but now I see it's 16:9. So, making a 4:3 aspect ratio DVD project will produce the results I have shown in my examples. In other words, FTS will result in black bars on the sides; S2F will fill the screen horizontally, but trim the top and bottom of the picture.

Does the TV have 4:3 aspect ratio or 16:9 aspect ratio?

If it's 16:9, then making a 16:9 DVD should work fine. If not, there's probably a setting that needs changed on the DVD player and/or TV.

  • Source file being 16:9 I created in 16:9 S&F & FTS and played. My DVD Player set up was in 16:9. Picture while playing covered full screen in vertical but black bars(thick ones) on both left & right side.Movie is not normal appeared pulled in vertical axis. But no truncation. Full movie with orange T shirt man was visible.

I changed DVD set upe doub to PAN 4:3. Movie was full screen. No blackbars at ends. But orange T shirt vanished.I changed set up to 4:3 Letterbox. Black bars on all 4 sides with same truncation of movie.

There is no 16:9 or 4:3 set up change facility in TV.

My wish is I want to see as it was in PAN 4:3 set up but without truncation, full movie. That is screen full without any black bars and in right proportion both in horizontal and vertical axis.

One more doubt. Should I always have to know my source file in what aspect ratio before importing into Nero Editing?

And you have asked to upload. What I have edited is portion of one full DVD.You want the whole DVD to be uploaded?
    • Vedanarayanan,

I wanted to use your source file to try duplicating your steps, but I'm not sure that's necessary now. What is the aspect ratio of your TV? If the screen's horizontal measurement is divided by its vertical measurement, the result will be ~1.33 for 4:3 aspect ratio and ~1.77 for 16:9.

I suppose this 16:9 DVD plays fine on the computer?

  • Veranarayanan,

Since your TV is 4:3, you are not going to be able display 16:9 video without blacks bars or distorting the picture. For a 4:3 project, FTS results in black bars above and below; S&F fills the screen vertically but cuts off the sides somewhat; the other possibility is to stretch the 16:9 video's vertical to make the aspect ratio 4:3, but that distorts the picture!

    No magic bullet!
