Nero 7 Premium and Windows

Hello

I have purchased a new PC with the latest version of Windows. I am trying to load Nero 7 Premium. At the outset a window appears stating that there are compatibility issues. If I ignore and download anyway, the process ends prematurely. What do I need to do to resolve this?

Thanks

  • Hi Howard-

First of all, Nero 7 is not Win 8 compatible. You would need either Nero 12 or Nero 2014 for complete compatibility.

You could install v7 in a compability mode but there's no guarantee that everything will work. I guess you would right click on the .exe; then select properties and select XP or Vista mode. I don't know what the actual options are.

Where are you downloading v7 from? If you go to Nero.com, downloads, previous product downloads, Nero 7, update, you can buy the download. However, that is for people who already have a serial number. Do you have a purchased serial number?

  • Thanks. Yes I have the original CD with the serial numbers - unlock key numbers? If I do buy the Nero 7 update, will I not need to have installed Nero 7 on my PC anyway. If I cant install it, can I still purchase and use the update?

    Thanks for the help!

  • I'm not sure what you're asking.

I should mention that updates for v9 and earlier are the complete program. The option to update from the Nero ControlCenter didn't work, to my knowledge. As a result, you don't need to have v7 installed to update it. All you need to do is insert your purchased serial number either during the installation or to the Nero ControlCenter, after the installation.

However, if you can't install from the disc by choosing a compatibility mode first, I don't know if the update would install either. Sometimes, updates fix installation problems but the release notes for v7 are no longer available so I can't tell. Note that other people have said that they have v7 running in Win 8.

(I don't want to confuse anyone who might be reading this. Starting with v10, Nero uses a Windows installer. If a person installed v10 and ran a check for updates from the Nero ControlCenter, updates would typically be to a portion of the suite and would be automatically downloaded and installed. Ditto for versions 11 to 14. However, if one wants to reinstall v10-v12 and doesn't have the installation file, they can go to nero.com and get it. It is also called an update but it is the full program.)
