Nero DVDs won't Play on newer DVD player
I have Nero 10 and 12 installed on Win7 PC. I want to convert video files (avi, MP4) to DVD, and burn to a DVD+R disc like ones from TDK. I can convert the video to DVD using Nero Video, but the disk won't play in newer DVD players, purportadly due to the UFD version that Nero uses. My old DVD player (samsung) can play it, new Samsung (with Wifi) can't. I tried a two step process. Convert video using Nero Video (12) to create the DVD file structure, and save to PC/drive. Then, use Nero Burning ROM, select DVD-ROM (UDF) and set the UDF to Physical partition 1.02. Burn DVD, and it still doesn't work on new Samsung, but plays on old Samsung DVD player. I'm not buying any more Nero until this gets resolved.

You should not select "DVD-ROM (UDF)" in Nero Burning ROM, cause in this case you burn a data dvd.
To burn a video-dvd, please select "DVD Video" in Nero Burning ROM. -

I saw a post about DVD-ROM, to be able to control the UDF marking. In DVD Video, I dropped in all of the VIDEO_TS files, and when I attemptd to Burn, it said that the NFO file didn't match something......but this set of files was used by NERO VIDEO to burn DVD. It said it might not burn correctly, should I try anyway ?
The resulting DVD from DVD-ROM did in fact play fine in my old player, just not in the new player, so it is a DVD and playable. -

So i just tried to DVD Video in Nero Burning ROM. Again, it plays on older player, and not newer player. The person that reported the UDF marking sounded correct and said it worked. Is there any issue with DVD+R disks from TDK ? Have you heard of manually controlly UDF markings on the DVD ? Will standalone DVD players play any NERO DVD that has the UDF1.50 format ?

It sounds to me like the firmware on the new Samsung needs to be updated but I don't know how to do that with a standalone player. Since the DVD-Video disc plays on one standalone player and, I assume, on your computer, that the disc is burned properly.
What is the specific model number for the new Samsung drive? -

First: I don't think that has anything to do with the udf version. A newer DVD-Player must be able to also playback disc with older udf version.
a) What exactly did the dvd-player display when you try to playback the disc?
b) Have you tried different brands of media and/or lower writing speeds?
Maybe the problem is only, that the new player cannot read this media.
c) I assume that the new dvd-player is also capable of playing e.g. data-disc with mp3 or video-files. Have you tried this? -

I'm really confused now.
This was in the first post-
"I can convert the video to DVD using Nero Video, but the disk won't play in newer DVD players, purportadly due to the UFD version that Nero uses."
This implies that a DVD-Video disc was burned in Nero Video and the disc plays in one but not another player. If this isn't the case, let us know.
In regards to the "NFO" error that you mentioned, there is no such thing in a Video_TS folder and the message you got probably listed the allowable files. If you can reproduce that, please provide a screenshot. There is a .ifo file which the player uses to properly play the disc. It could have been corrupted. -

Never mind, I tried Wondershare and it worked first time, playing the burnt DVD on both new and old players. I'm done trying to make Nero work.

Well, burning is Nero's business and has been for about 20 years. There's a reason that it's not working in this case. In the case of Burning Rom, there appears to be a problem with one of your files. If you did burn in Nero Video, we can also look at the log file. I hadn't asked for that yet.
Keep in mind that you can always send an e-mail to tech support at techsupport@nero.com. I'm just a volunteer who's been in here almost daily for the last 6 years.- view 2 more comments

What exactly is your problem?
What Nero product are you using?
What are YOU doing?
More info would be helpful! -

i am trying to burn a DVD via Nero 10 and i have selected DVD-Video and tried to add MP4 video and it keeps on saying there is no Video_TS. Can anyone help me please?

Hi Mark,
Sounds like you are in Burning ROM ... that selection for DVD-Video assumes you already have the Video_TS file structure that a "standard" DVD must have.
i.e. .vob files
If you want to make a plain data DVD with an mp4 file just stored "as is" ... which requires video playback software to play it ... select a DVD ROM type in Burning ROM.
HOWEVER ... if you want to create a DVD that plays on a "standard" DVD player attached to a TV ... you really need to use Nero Video instead, where you go to create a disc .. DVD - DVD -Video and import your video mp4 file, select a menu screen (or none) preview the project, then proceed to have Nero Video "transcode" your mp4 file and burn the DVD for you into the Video_TS file structure required for a standard DVD player. -
