That sounds like a kernel problem.
However, is the CD copy protected? -
-
No. I am able to rip and burn them fine with Windows Media Player.

Open All Programs, Accessories. Find the Command Prompt. Right click on it and select "run as administrator". Type in SFC /Scannow and let it run. Does it find any problems? If so, reboot and run it again.
-
I did as follows and returned with the result:
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
I then restarted the PC and ran SFC /Scannow again in command prompt with the same result. -

Usually you can ignore those.
Rather than have you chase your tail, I recommend that you send an e-mail to tech support.
I'm assuming your CD isn't copy protected. -
-
Ok. Before contact support, should I try a different brand of cd's?
-
-
I don't think so. This is an unhandled exception and happens so fast that the log file probably doesn't provide any information in regards to the cause. Normally, a disc problem would manifest itself later in the burn.
If anything, you could check to see if you have the latest firmware installed for your drive. If you have a laptop, you would check at the laptop's vendor support site. If you have a PC, you would check at the drive manufacturer's website.
Once again, I'm assuming the CD is not copy protected. You haven't responded to that. -
-
You mean the CD i'm trying to burn to is isn't copy protected, or the CD i'm copying from isn't copy protected? How can I check that?
-
-
I mean the CD that you're trying to copy from. There's no foolproof way to determine if it's protected. If you play it in Nero MediaHome, I think the MediaInfo will tell you. Ditto for Windows Media Player. If it's a commercial CD, most of them are copy protected. I've found the ability detect copy protection in various versions of Nero of copy protection to vary considerably. the other issue is that copy protection detection is now built into the firmware of blu-ray drives and, possibly, cd/dvd drives.
-
In addition, if you burn your own audio cd using sample files that come with various programs like Windows Media Player and Nero on your system, can you copy that?

If someone could tell me why win32k.sys won't let be boot one of my other hard drives, I'd be really happy. Actually, I've messed with it long enough and I'm going to reinstall the OS tomorrow.
Then I need to figure out how to format another hard drive which won't boot because the MPT is corrupted. I think I have just the thing for it but need to find the time.
