  • If all the files and folders that added the libray of Nero MediaHome has updated , the update media procress should shop. Does your library include too much media files? Please try to remove some of the folders in the library (check the Option on the top right corner), check MediaHome again. then you can try to add the folders to see if there is any change.

    • too muche media? ...if I had just a few do you think I would need a program?
    • Unfortunately NERO you can't check options or select from the many wonderful choices built into the software while the media library is updating -- and it updates for hours and hours depending on the speed of one's operating system. It's extremely frustrating to have it work one day, after updating, and then a week letter I'll go back to it and suddenly it's spendng all afternoon updating the media library. I've learned a lot about taking certain kinds of media out of certain folders, to speed up the process, but the bottom line is that MediaHome is a very USER-UNFRIENDLY profram because it insists on studying the media library for updates before it allows the owner to give any instructions, such as "No longer search inside the Video folder, that is a work folder and does not belong in the library." Real simple command for an easy to understand purpose. That is what we (who are complaining) are complaining about. Please fix this issue now if not sooner. Thanks for your otherwise very find program.

You can opt out of updating by deleting all folders and drives from the NMH Library. Also, in the Library section, uncheck the box to add watched folders when their content is viewed......

Kind of defeats the purpose of NMH.

    • Look, NERO, the issue is a simple one. While Nero MediaHome is updating the library, you can't use the program at all. You can't tell it to stop searching in certain folders filled with media files you don't want in the library. You just have to ride it out, and it takes HOURS.
    • All of us in the forum, except for Since5.5 are volunteers. Occasionally, one of the other Nero employees will wonder in here and try to help.

Below, Lucky Phil provided a screenshot of how to stop it.

Once you do that, remove any whole drive or partition from the Nero MediaHome Library. Manually add the folders which contain media that you normally use to the Library.

There's another way to do fix it but I don't think it's necessary.

  • I’m Angry
Appears to me Nero could not care less apart from giving he same excuses, ahem, advice, over and over again. The 'Support' is pathetic

  • What excuses are you referring to? We've provided answers that are based on how the program works. I notice that the problem you had with audio CD playback was resolved here without going to tech support so I don't understand the comment about support being pathetic. I do agree that we could use more Nero employee participation in the forum but, for the sticky problems, it's not practical to resolve them here. The problem being discussed here isn't particularly hard to resolve.

    • Stuart,
You do realise that Wither is not a Nero staff member don't you?
    • No, so why he is writing like he is one? I won't be back here. the software is a complete rip-off with no satisfactory answers to users solutions

There should be an option to halt library update without terminating WHM. Some users want a media player/app that doesn't take over control of their media/interface like WMP or iTunes. Hearing all your hard drives crunching away at something is not a good feeling.

An aside, Nero "Help" is pretty non functional. Try to find Help on what the "enable audio post processing" streaming option does. ..or how about what streaming transcoding does. ...user ends up Googleing or searching the various PDFs. Not Good.

  • If you have a partition or drive in the Library, it's going to look to see what media files are on each of those whenever you restart it. If it didn't do that, additional media files that you added to each of those wouldn't display. The best approach is to remove partitions and whole drives from the Library and manually add folders to the Library.

  • Heather,
You can cancel the library update from the bottom left-hand corner of the screen:

  • If you can't stop it, then let it run. Then go into the Library and remove partitions or drives from the Library. Add your folders containing media manually.

You can always send an e-mail to techsupport@nero.com in regards to how to stop it for a first time user. I didn't think it was set to automatically import files but it's been many moons since I first installed it and the settings may have been changed in the interim.

  • I have so much media that its no good adding it. I have decided to add a file when I want it and remove it afterwards.

I took 40mins to load the media I added and 20mins each time I restarted the programme.

It would be better to have the option of adding the Directory Tree in explorer format and opening the folders as and when and an option to stop auto searching for media changes. . . . as it takes far too long to start the programme.

Used it to watch a film and it crashed after 13mins 35secs . . . had to exit programme and restart. . . then my TV said there was no videos/files which there was. Seems it needs a rethink to cope with people who have masses of media.

I don't like the way everything's organised by date . . . My media is organised alphabetically . . . so If I want to watch "Gravity" its under G not October 2014

  • the guy your avatar is based on unfortunately died last week. Seems to me, that you're throwing up roadblocks.

You're tossing together a bunch of supposed problems which are not related to this thread. For instance, you can sort by name, date or type.

If you really want to bitch about all those things, send an e-mail to techsupport@nero.com. Be very specific about each thing you don't like. They'll be glad to help. You won't get a response until next week since they don't work weekends.i

    • What a TOSSER you are Wither 1 . . . . . . YOU - THE SELF STYLED NERO PRO. . . .

Not being an amazing IT expert like your good self I have to do things by trial and error and "ask the experts" . . . I am but a simple man, I do not understand the inner workings of the Bill Gates machine and it's binary coding.

Well Nero Boy . . . I found that by unchecking the "Allow Indexing of connected devices" box in Library options the World becomes a calm and loving place once again. . . . . Having taken on Tech support for Nero since 2013 YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT

Patrick Macnee was a fantastic actor and I have a great respect for him. . . unlike you who referred to him as "the guy who unfortunately died last week"

I change my Avatar slightly less regularly than my smalls and like to honour people and things for which I have a love, respect or find amusing, be they from from my past, present or futuristic.

In closing . . . . . . . Keep up the good work and please re read the manuals as you missed this VERY easy fix which "non computer savvy" old me finally figured out after 6hrs messing . . . . . . . . people have been asking this for 12months on this thead !
    • I was making a simple comment about the avatar just to let you know that Patrick had died, if you didn't know already. Since it appeared in my TWC news which is replaced every day, I didn't have a way of getting his name. My memory isn't that good.

I had no idea that your files are on Portable Devices. I'm also not a Nero Employee so, forget about the IT expert stuff. :D

When I first came into the forum about 7 years ago, it was difficult to find help from anybody with anything in Nero. There were a couple of Nero employees who were there intermittantly but mostly there were a bunch of flamers.

The important thing is that you found a solution to that particular problem. That will help others.

  • Know this is a long dead topic, but this is the first one Google came up with... As others have pointed out, this feature is of limited use at best, and should be scrapped completely,

Typical users of Nero will have far more storage and media files on their machine than the program can handle in any reasonable amount of time when it goes to update the library. For instance, the Library update on my 4Ghz i7 24GB RAM machine with Nero and C: drive installed on a SATA 3.0 connected SSD has been running for 35 minutes since I installed Nero 17, with no end in sight. It can't be stopped and the **default** is for Nero to run around and look for media absolutely everywhere. If I go to the Options menu and remove all the folders from the Watched list, hitting OK starts another endless Library update, which if terminated deletes the changes to the Watched list.

The only solution you've offered is to stop the update, which terminates all library functions completely. For instance, I have added a new folder of photos to the machine that I want to make into a quick slideshow, but since Nero stupidly does not support Windows drag and drop (are you guys seriously stuck in the 1990s?), there's no way in other than the non-functional library.

What you should have said and be saying now is that there is no way to make this feature usable, unless you have a brand new computer with no migrated data and few if any other installed software. Nero has some good tools in it, but MediaHome is NOT one of them.

By the way, I seem to recall the predecessor to MediaHome (pre-Nero 10 I believe) did not have this problem...

  • OK, for completeness, on my computer (described above), I was successful in deleting all the folders from the Watched list, and the ensuing Library update completed in 15 minutes. Still not exactly user friendly... and for someone like me with probably 100,000 photos and videos in over at least 1000 different folders across 3 drives, this is just not usable.

  • If you deleted all the folders from the watched list, there's nothing for it to look for and it shouldn't take but maybe 30 seconds to open. Do you have a partition or drive in the watched folders list?

To clean things up, go to -

    C:\Users\"your user name"\AppData\Local

Change the Nero folder name to Nero1 and the Nero_AG folder name to Nero_AG1.

Restart NMH. How long does it take to open?
