I’m frustrated

Nero Video 15 major Text issues.

Nero Video 15.0.13000 has two problems with text. First one: Credits can now only contain 9 lines. I discovered this the hard way: Have tranferred a project from NV12 to 15 and suddenly only the first 9 lines appeared. For Nero staff: It's easy to reproduce: Number 1-15 under each other and play it back. It will stop at number 9, also in a brand-new project.
Second problem: If you make a static text Bold the text shows up hardly readable anymore. Now I have to redo all the subtitles. Please fix these issues.

  • This problem (and other defects in text effects) is known and will reported to Nero from me resp. from Omega Tester. I'm opening up a post here asap, which I update according to the reactions of Nero.

  • Some explaination:

Text editing "in the first place" (since Nero 8, I think) was a Nero solution). But meanwhile specific standard solutions with the OS in the Windows programmers libraries (DLL's) are available for this. The SW developers should use these components instead of create own solutions. This for conformity with the rules for apllications, which run in Windows OS environments. These components must be customized for correct working in the respective program environment.

Nero has now updated NeroVideo in version 12, but customizing is unsatisfactory, as you and other users have mentioned. Other users, who don't know, what they should have to expect from a SW, mean, this must be so.

How it must be, you see primarily in Windows applications (they are allways up-to-date), like Word and Windows Life Movie Maker (best example for comparision here).

As I said, I will report this issue to the Nero development. I am still always working on this.

So I think, we can finish the discussion here.

Btw, also the previous solutions (since Nero 8) didn't work flawless. Automatic line breaks were not supported there. You have to manually add line feeds for fit the text in the text area.

  • Ok, so we finished the discussion for a month already. How is the progress on the reported issue now after this month of waiting? I've bought Nero 2014 to have the 'super fast and fantastic working version of Nero Video', but I'm now still using Nero Video 12. When are the Text issues (and the lost position issue etc.) fixed and can I start using Nero Video 2014?

  • Well, he has 15.0.13 and I have 15.0.15. I don't have time today to try it again or go look for the other thread on this issue, but I believe in that other thread I said I was able to use more than 9 lines. I've got two of three hard drives working so now I'm off to see if I can recover the third.
    • Reminder from here:

So, has there been some update to Nero 2014 Video that I have missed?

There are now 30 Nero employees "participating" in this forum. Hopefully one of them will comment on this issue and, more generally, when the promised Nero 2014 Video October update will be posted. Just had a chatsession. Quality control is testing an update of Nero Video. They hope to bring it out just before Christmas or in January, but can't tell an exact date. It won't hurt to install the trial 15.0.18 (it becomes registered), so I will try that tonight and test if the text-issues are gone.

My V12 is still working fine and although its not the 'super fast and fantastic working version of Nero Video' it still works and is quite stable. The bad thing of this whole story is that I stopped preaching Nero Video as one of the best video tools to my friends and collegues...

Are you saying that there is an untested version of Nero 2014 Video available as a "trial" for you to test?

It would seem that there would be a list of changes available at this point (Release Notes?) so that Nero would be able to simply tell you if you can expect more lines of text or not without you becoming involved in the process.

I have been trying to find an answer to the problem of not being able to edit text in "Credits". Although this original thread is about a year old and pertains to N14 my version of Nero video 15 is 16.0.14000. This is very frustrating as I am able to use all text frames except this one. I have also sent a message to tech support with no answer. My solution is to go back and use Nero 11 which was flawless. Another would be to start converting my video production to Pinnacle. Any Ideas? I've been a Nero user for 10 years but reaching the end of my patience.

  • Hi Wither,
I finish a video and wish to show the credits of the school play, for example. I select Credits text and begin to type in Cast, Director etc. etc. I save the information then go back later to either add another line or fix the spelling on text already entered. What happens is that after selecting edit, the curser never lines up with the bottom line of text nor dies it line up with any line when you try to set it with the text to be edited. There is no relationship with the curser and the information that has been entered at the beginning. Nero 11 had no limits to line numbers nor any problem with editing text. Nero 15 is very frustrating. It seems to be the only text option that has this problem that I have found, so far. I am running Windows 7 Professional 64bit, 8gb ram, I5 processor. I should add in fairness that the Nero 15 editing improvements I really like with this one exception. By doing a search on the forum I find that there have been others who have experienced this problem but I have not seen any reference to an update to correct it. My updates are all up to date.
Appreciate your interest and hope there is a correction available.

  • well, I had a double vodka martini with dinner tonight and a couple of beers afterwards. Despite that, I think I understand what you're saying. There was a problem with the number of lines in the credits but that seems to be corrected. If I have time tomorrow, I'll try to receate what i think you're telling me. However, I think my boss (she takes precedence) wants me to go have a pedicure tomorrow morning so I'm not sure when I'll get to it. Sorry about that. Perhaps you'll ping me about it tomorrow so I don't forget. I am rather impressed with the extensive text options in v2015, even if it takes some effort to digest them.

  • You may be on to something with the double vodka martini approach to calming your frustration. This morning, perfectly sober, I went back to my project and added "credits". I went along line by line, making any correction while still on the new line and finished the credit function. No problems, so far. After saving the project, I went back in and wanted to add a line at the end of the text already entered and saved. When I selected "edit" what I got was the same frustration as before. Curser would not align to the fonts, backspace removed text above the line I wanted to edit. Attempts to fix the problem were impossible so I simply closed the program without saving. I also found a similar problem last night while trying to edit "Static Text" in a program originally made with Nero 11. Problem is similar to what is going on with the "credits". My fix required deleting the old text frame and retyping a new frame. Hope this doesn't delete your vodka supply but there must be a setting I'm missing or is lacking in the Nero 15 program.

  • William,

With a white background, it's easier to see the cursor's position. And, it's easier to see the misalignment between the cursor's position and the position of the resultant text. The effect varies depending on font size in the example below.

Backspace worked fine when I clicked anywhere within a line. As Omega Tester shows, it would be easier to change the background to see the cursor.

What you presented in this entertaining video is not the problem. If you read my statement this morning, I indicated that as long as I moved thru the levels typing in text it seemed to be fine. The problem comes when I go to re-edit the text after saving. I also indicated I had similar experience re-editing Nero 11 text in the new Nero 15 format. ( I cannot open my old Nero 11 programs due to new newer version) I want to know what is happening during the Re-edit process when I try to make changes. That when the curser moves around and does not align to the original text. Thanks for the white screen suggestion but I can see the problem with out it. The Masked area after edit selection is not around the saved text but in the background with no relation to the text. The curser seems to have its own ideas on what to do.
    • William,

The video shows at several points that characters are inserted on a line other than the line on which the cursor is located. It shows the same effect when trying to use the backspace key to delete a character. I am sure that your experience mirrors what has been demonstrated. Even if that's not the case, I have demonstrated a bug that is undeniable, notwithstanding Wither 1's claims.

I suppose you could send an email to techsupport@nero.com.
    • William- when I was testing this morning, I had saved the project as a .nvc and then reopened it to try editing again. As a result, we're on the same page. I think what you're referring to, in regards to the mask, is the highlight around a word that is selected by double clicking on it. It's like a hazy blue on my black screen. I thought maybe you were seeing the "shadow" for the font. If you click on the down arrow for Shadow and select "more shadows", change the color to yellow to really see the font shadow.

"The curser mix-up is what I am experiencing. I am preparing a report showing what happens to both a static text and credits text. In both examples the curser locates in the middle as in your situation. Let me add these images to show what I mean.
Here I am starting to edit a credits text.

After selecting edit this is the screen. No end of original text showing.

as I hit the up arrow eventually my last text entry comes into view. The thin line over the P is the curser. I move the curser to the end of the line of text and hit enter. Thinking it is below the last line I select a letter to start a new line and look where the new letter shows up:
As you see the "D" has popped into space four or five rows above and not where I want it. I hope this illustrates better what I have been trying to explain.

  • William,

I don't have the font that you are using, but I did find a group of three related fonts that give strikingly different results: Leelawadee, Leelawadee UI, and Leelawadee UI Semilight. I tried each on my 24 line sample. The first gives "perfect" results in that typing a 'q' places a 'q' at the cursor. The second places the 'q' slightly above the cursor. The third, which I'm guessing will be your favorite, places the 'q' several lines above the cursor! So, I think we're observing the same bug expressed differently depending on the font type and size (and line number!). Here are the screenshots:

The fonts I used in this examples was "Mandela" in the size 36. I usually start a new text frame with the default font (arial) and change to the new font after the text has been completed. Project is saved with the new font. Editing takes place in the saved font style. I have sent technical the information they requested but happy you are now getting the same type of result. I have attached a page sent to technical where the problem occurred in editing a static text project made in Nero 11 and now in the Nero 15 format.

  • William,

I hope you referenced this topic in your email! I've got another example. My 24 line Credits is fine using Lucida Sans Unicode font:

However, with Lucida Console font selected, the cursor is about two lines above where changes are made and shifted horizontally. In this case, half of the 22nd line and the last two lines cannot be viewed:

I guess the simple solution is to switch to a font that allows proper editing and then switch back to the desired font?

And hope that you don't have to make corrections later.:) I did send tech support both examples (static and credits) of my text editing efforts. Hopefully something positive will come from this. Thank you for your interest in digging deeper into the problem. Sometimes it's difficult to explain when others haven't seen the problem. As an aside, several versions back in both Nero 10 & 11, I could not import media on a DVD into Nero video. Would get error message that the DVD was not importable WHEN THE DVD WAS PRODUCED IN NERO!!!! Tech support could not help resolve the problem so I reinstalled Nero 9 and have been importing the media with no problems for the past 4-5 years. I notice with Nero 15 that the problem has been corrected. The moral of all this is "Have Patience... Nero will eventually get it right!"

Your suggesting that after you save a project and need to re-edit some text, that you change the font back to the default font, make the change and then change the font back to what you had selected? Right? If so it's a good temporary solution until Nero can eliminate the extra step.

thank you for your e-mail and your attachments.

The reported probelm is already known at our development department where my collegues aure currently working on.

As a workaround we suggest to edit the whole text at a separate program.
To do this please proceed as following:
    1. Mark the complete text at the mentioned Nero Video edit-area by press "CTRL" + "a"
-> The whole text will be highlighted in blue
    2. Copy it to the windows clipboard using the keys "CTRL" + "c" on your keyboard
    3. Open a writing application like Microsoft Notepad by pressing the "WIN" + "r" keys and write "notepad" and press enter
    ->Microsoft Notepad will open
