I’m frustrated

No bluray player for 2016 platinum?

I bought every platinum version of nero since about 4 or 5 versions ago, this feels like a downgrade without a bluray player.

Hi Francis, Nero Blu-Ray Player is discontinued and not part of Nero 2016 Platinum anymore. Any version of it bought with Nero 10,11,12,2014,2015 can update to the latest version delivered with Nero 2015 for free and will continue to work in parallel to Nero 2016 Classic/Platinum.

So with the first version you bought years before you already purchased the right for any updates that have been provided in later Suite versions. And with Nero 2016 Platinum you now get the full stashimi Music Recorder that allows you to record Mp3s from 100.000 radio stations worldwide for free and legally...I hope you like this new tool.

So why was this not made clear on the (very limited) "what's new" pages? If you look at the forums there are a lot of very dissatisfied users - and I will certainly be considering whether Nero offers value for money in any future upgrades, seeing that most of what it now does is covered by many other products, and the thing that gave it real value for money in 2015 was the inclusion of a BluRay player!

  • How about in the future, say in 6 - 12 months, when new Blu-ray movie, etc. discs are released - will Nero Blu-ray Player be able to play them without any new update ? Can a Nero employee please let us know ?

  • Please check out this link from the Sony PS3 for some background information:

So any commercial BD title purchased and played after beginning of 2017 will invalidate the BD functionality of the player (AVCHD continues to work).

Why didn't you guys say so? If the player will lose functionality after 2017 what's the reason to keep it?

I was very disappointed when I noticed that I could not uninstall Nero Platinum 2015 from my PC otherwise I would lose the Nero Blu-Ray player, and now you are saying that we users will lose it regardless!

In other words, we pay for a software that will no longer update or work. GREAT!

I had purchased the Nero Blu-Ray player in the Market under Nero KwikMedia, which was later disabled and updated to Nero MediaHome. I had no idea that this Blu-Ray player was already part of the Nero Platinum 2015 that I have been running since its inception.

My understanding is that Nero should be clearer when offering software updates, especially now that the player is discontinued.

If only you had let users who bought from the market installed as a standalone program, it would be less unethical and fairer to those who wish to uninstall 2015 in their machines.

  • On another topic:

I have Stashimi full (labeled as such and according to the installation, unlock key).

However I was not able to find a recording button, so I am unable to record anything as promised.

Please tell me what am I missing?

Do I have to purchase an upgrade version in order to get recording capability?

    Your help is appreciated, thanks.

  • Thank you, Lucky Phil. I found the recording button as you said, by selecting a radio station.

However, I was wishing to record specific search tracks, using the search tool. I assume now that it can't be done, correct?

For tracks that are searched I could only find a play function. Is there any way around this limitation?

Unfortunately, Nero isn't ever very specific in their advertisements, however, media refers to files on a hard drive, or equivalent. For all previous versions, they did mention the Nero Blu-Ray Player in Platinum. Either late last year or early this year, they quit offering the blu-ray plug-in for Nero MediaHome.

If you can't playblu-ray BDMV or BDAV folders, let me know which version of Nero MediaHome that you have.

let me revive this thing. I waited long enough to get nero as a BD player for a cheap price when the newsletter suddenly gave a very cheap sale for 2016 platinum, I thought fine, let's get it any now that I installed t, it wants to seriously tell me that there's no BD player (which is literally the sole purpose I bought this for)

this is just embarrassing in my opinion. this thing advertised to play all your media and especially combined with the fact that this thing previously had BD support.

they should really have informed customers new and old alike that they dont play blurays anymore.

anyone would think that BDs work, I mean what would you guys say if PowerDVD 17 would suddenly say that they wont play BDs anymore?

I know that with 75% down to 25€ this isnt a huge loss but it still isnt nice.

  • I had to reinstall Nero Platinum 2015 only to be able to use Nero's Blu-Ray player.

However, Nero has already informed that the days of this player are numbered. The question as to when this is going to happen remains open.

When that day comes I will uninstall version 2015 (I only run 2016 anyway), and then search for a decent, reasonably priced Blu-Ray player with full menus capability.

If you want a player without menus there are free and paid options. Please note that some free applications, such as VLC, will not properly work unless you have AnyDVD HD installed.

You may try PotPlayer which is an excellent free player that will install all needed codecs in its installation directory. This means not messing up with your OS environment.

I haven't joined in on this one before but now someone else has revived it...
The word "media" is the plural of "Medium" which in this case means "The means by which something is carried" A hard drive is a medium, the stuff on it is not. A Blue Ray disc is a medium. (A book is also a medium but clearly that is not the intention here). The claim "All your media, anywhere" includes, by common usage, Blue Ray.
In the UK, not to include a Blue Ray player is a criminal offence under The Trade Descriptions Act as well as being grounds for a civil action. In the rest of the European Community, it is in violation of a number of directives concerned with packaging and advertising. Nero is a German company and should abide by European rules. I am surprised that the German authorities have not already taken issue with them: in my experience they are very hot on this sort of thing.
Yes, I am a lawyer (retired) who used to specialise in consumer protection and was a recognised "expert" at the European Commission.
    • and the all media anywhere equals bluray as well can (in my opinion, not a lawyer) be backed by the fact that ner DID have a BD player before.
    • If I read "All my media", I do understand that it will not play a tefifon tape, but I will EXPECT that it at least plays technologies for which they put a logo quite prominently on the Box, the die BluRay logo, and sorry, but the excuse that it will burn BluRay Disks but not play them is quite lame. Especially when "burning but does not play" is basically unheard of! It's like a VCR that can record but not play a recorded tape... just stupid!

  • If Nero BluRay player is not included in Nero 2016, what is this doing in Program Files (x86)/Nero? Don't know if it works because I don't have a Blue Ray player in my machine.

    • Hi Paulo-

In my last post, I was referring to either BDMV or BDAV folders. If you were able to play a disc, it's because you have either v2015 Platinum or it's blu-ray player installed. Just wanted to clarify what I said.
    • Hi, Wither 1,

I do indeed have Nero Platinum 2015 installed. I posted that info in a previous comment.

Leawoo was kind enough to offer me to download a new version of the player, after I reported to them that none of the pop-up options would run.

I intent to install it later and send them a proper feedback on the results.

I don't know how long will the Nero Blu-Ray player be usable. I know this player has difficulties to play at least the British release of Zulu. I opened a support ticket with Nero but they never managed to sort out that problem, and as far as I can tell their player is rarely if ever updated.

I have considered ordering PowerDVD 16 Ultra, but I am still reluctant, mainly because some of its resources will not be put to good use in my PC. You see, I have a dedicated home theater installation, and I see no reason to stream content from the PC.

The Nero player on the other hand would let me do what I need to do in a temporary/testing basis. It is a shame that it will no longer be available.

".....Nero Blu-ray Player enables you to play back Blu-ray and AVCHD discs in razor-sharp clarity and optimized DTS and Dolby (R) surround quality.
It also supports additional streaming content on BD Live enabled discs...."
This is what came up when when I tried to use it; also "....purchase is required..." with a link I didn't bother to follow. It is in Nero2016-17.0.04500.exe which I downloaded 16 July 2016 & has a time stamp of 11 April 2016 (08:14:24).
"Nero was an ineffectual, neglectful and brutal leader who committed suicide..." (BBC). Works for me.

  • I wrote an e-mail to Nero regarding their Blu-Ray player and how long it will continue to be operational. And the support said to me that they don't have plans to discontinue its use for the time being.

I was inclined to order PowerDVD Ultra version 16 but decided to skip it until Nero's application stops working.

The Leawo support, on the other hand, has been exchanging e-mails with me. They were kind enough to make their player 100% free and answer for support requests. I have done a couple of tests with this player and found out that it will work with a virtual drive, something that the gentle folks at Leawo's were not aware of. In addition, if you run AnyDVD HD in the background and play an AACS-free copy of a disc containing the infamous Cinavia protection, Leawo's player will work flawlessly.

I would keep this player if it wasn't for the fact that many Blu-Ray discs do not let proper menu selection. The Nero player does not have this flaw.

  • Wow the replies to this topic have grown , into the complaint department , you all have to realize that as a company Nero has the right to discontinue any and all software that they see is not fit for mainstream anymore, I on the other had don't even bother playing movies on my pc anymore so this did not bother me in the least bit. But the complaints over a simple player in here is ridiculous to say the least, i just had to chime in here and say this, in fact another company has also done this total media theater from arcsoft left the building as well, guys you have to understand nero and all these companies have to pay a licensing fee, for the blue ray codex, and the small price they charge for there product however big it may seem to us is more then likley not covering the price hikes, on this stuff. and nero however good of a bd player it was was not as full functional as some like cyberlink, to name one.
