I’m Frustrated

Nreo recovery disc

OK. So a glitch of some sort occurred on my laptop and I dealt with it by refreshing the system. Apparently this means the computer creates its own restoration point without spoiling one's files, but it also means that various applications such as Nero are wiped off the hard drive. I stuck in my Nero recovery disc and tried to load it onto the hard drive by selecting the various items on the disc. All that happened was that the Nero installation wizard promised all but did nothing except present me with the message: 1158 OK.
How do I get Nero 2014 Platinum back on my hard drive, please?

  • Best thing to do is to go to nero.com, downloads. Select the Trial version and download. Install it. Insert your Platinum serial number either during the installation or insert it into the Nero ControlCenter after the installation. You will have the Platinum version. Don't forget to run the check for updates. After you've done that, open Creative Content and Download/install the Content pack.

Hi Wither 1. Thanks for your advice. I just spent a lot of time trying to follow it and getting nowhere. First time, part way through the set-up procedure (after I had inserted my serial number) a dialogue box informed me that Nero had been interrupted so would I go through the set up process again? So I did, only to be confronted by another dialogue box bearing only the legend 11:58. When I selected OK in the box, the message and Nero completely disappeared. This is just what kept happening when I tried to load Nero from the Nero recovery disc. Have you any other suggestions, please? Bearing in mind that I paid extra for the recovery disc, could you tell me what exactly is its function?

  • What is your operating system? If it's Vista or later, try right clicking on the .exe and selecting "run as administrator".

Do you have any anti-virus installed? If so, try disabling it's security features.

In general, it sounds like a problem with the installer-

If your system is Vista or earlier, I recommend that you reinstall the Windows Installer 4.5 redistributable-

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downlo...

If it's Win 7 or later, they use v5 and there's no redistributable for it.

Do you have any problems running Windows updates?

Wither 1. Good news! Nero installed ok at the third attempt just now. I think you were right about the installer but I don't know what the problem was nor why it appears to have fixed itself. Thanks for your advice.

  • Great. Sounds like it fixed itself without you having to do any of the things I mentioned.

    Enjoy!

  • Hi Wither 1. I got the same prob again. Once again I had to refresh my laptop, thus wiping Nero and others in the process. Now when I try to download Nero via the free 15 day trial offer, all I get after completion is the dialogue box indicating 1508: OK. I select OK and the dialogue box disappears and so does my Nero programme. I'm using Windows 8.1. What do you suggest, please?

  • Hi ColmOscopy,

The error 1158 appears during the extraction of the installation file already,
not during the actual installation process. This error can be caused by either an incomplete or damageddownload of the installation file or by a compatibility problem. I guess this is your case, as you could install the file before and got an installation disc.

    Nevertheless, please try the following.
Download the installation file from our website.
Disconnect your internet connection and disable your antivirus software.
Press right mouse tab onto the .exe file you downloaded.
Select “Properties” in the context menu.
Choose the “Compatibility” tab in order to change the “Compatibility Mode” to:
“Windows XP SP3′′ if you are using Windows XP or Windows Vista
“Windows 7′′ if you are using Windows 7.
Confirm your settings with “apply” and press “OK”
    Start the installation again.

    Does this help?
    Best regards,
    NeroUser

  • Hi, Nero User (Employee). Thanks for the advice. Actually, the recovery disc worked fine on this occasion except that after it had successfully installed Nero 2014 Platinum on my laptop it then told me it couldn't download updates because it couldn't "find the path". I assume it could not find the very path, down which it had only milisecs ago downloaded Nero? Why would that be, do you think, please?

  • I guess you're not having any fun. :(

I got lost between being able to install it from disc and the path that it downloaded Nero from. What did it download? I don't think the updates are in the same path as the path for downloading the update file. Did it give the path it couldn't find?

  • I’m confused
Hello, Wither 1. I inserted the Nero recovery disc. Selected 2014 Platinum and, when asked for it, typed in my serial number. Nero 2014 Platinum then downloaded perfectly. I was about to eject the disc when a dialogue box informed me that updates could not be downloaded because the path could not be found. I ejected the disc and began to use Nero normally. I'm only wondering if I'm missing some updates.

  • First, start the Nero Launcher and select Your Product. Run the check for updates from the Nero Control Center. Do you get any errors?

Go to Burning Rom, New. In the Help, select About Nero Burning Rom. What is the version number?

Do the same thing for Nero Video. What is the version number.
