Photo color profiles

Hello, I am new to nero. I wanted to use a photo for a menu on a video project. When I attache the photo in the menu, the photo is brought in with a drastically different color profile. I have tried changing the extension type which did not change my issue. I used a .jpeg and .tiff. To describe the profile difference it drastically desaturated the picture and pushed the tint to green. Am I doing something wrong?

  • From Nero Video > create AVCHD> DVD>Import files> Selected Video File
    > Next > Customize Under background > Predefined background> picture file> select desired JPEG or TIFF

The Adobe Color profile file is how windows photo viewer sees the photo and how I see it when editing in photoshop.

The Nero Color Pofile file is the way nero see the same photo.

This is true from Nero Video and from Nero Media Home just viewing the photo.

  • So I didn't figure this out, but it worked as expected when I export from Lightroom rather than Photoshop. I am wondering if It may be how the file stores it's color profile?

Menu1 is the photo that gives me the above issues.

DSC_3551 is the version I exported from lightroom. It seems to look the same in Nero.

  • Nothing, it might be cropped slightly different. Cropping was the only thing I did in either program. In photoshop, I then clicked save as and saved as a jpeg (also tried tiff). In lightroom I cropped then exported as a jpeg.

    spencer,

Interesting! Since Jbass (Employee) hasn't offered any explanation, I did some research myself. So, be warned that the following is being posted by a "color space novice".

Here are three web sites that I found helpful:

    ProPhoto RGB color space.

If you're editing in PS, you want to use ProPhoto. When you export to the web that's when you want sRGB..

Digital-Image Color Spaces. I found this one really helpful. In particular, the writer supplied a number of pictures with embedded color profiles on page 2. I downloaded the first of these for each of the six different color profiles offered. I zipped them up and made them available here [276 KB] for anyone to test.

I've made several slideshows of the 6 pictures, each with 3 seconds per picture. The first has labels indicating the profile; I didn't take the time with the others.

A slideshow of the 6 JPGs "properly" interpreted by a Nero competitor:

A slideshow of the 6 JPGs "properly" interpreted by Microsoft Movie Maker:

An animated GIF made with GIMP with a single background frame to indicate that the cycle is complete and starting over:

Now, a slideshow from Nero 2017 Video:

The Nero MediaHome results are no better that Nero Video's. To be fair, I had no better luck with another slideshow from a different Nero competitor application.

In conclusion, it appears that using the Adobe default ProPhoto RGB space is generally recommended for editing, but exporting using the sRGB profile is best for compatibility. Although I have to add that all six of the tested profiles were correctly interpreted by many of my applications/browsers.

I suppose you could ask Nero to correct the situation:

    Support Issues

Help with issues involving recent Nero versions can be obtained directly from Nero by using the email contact form at Technical Support via e-mail. This requires a valid product serial number which has the form XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX (8 groups of 4 characters/digits separated by dashes. Note: The serial number will not have the letter 'O'. Since this is a public forum, DO NOT post your serial number. If your serial number is not accepted, use the contact form at Nero Customer Service.

Or, maybe Jbass (Employee) will look into the matter?
