Problem with selecting Audio Track in Nero Video

I am burning a DVD from an mp4. This mp4 has 2 audio tracks, German and English. Audio Track 2 being English. I have loaded the MP4 in Nero Video and specifically selected Audio Track 2 from the editing menu. I verified that it is using Audio Track two by previewing the movie before I burn it.

However, anytime I burn it reverts back to Audio Track 1 :(

Help, this is frustrating.

Thanks!

  • I don't have a file with two tracks. If you right click on the video on the timeline and select "unlink video and audio", are both audio tracks shown? If so, you can delete one (or both) of them.

  • The only option I get is "Delete linked audio".

I also see a "Audio Stream" option with Audio 1 and Audio 2. This is how I assumed you change which audio stream you want to use.

  • I found this thread http://forum.nero.com/nero_eng/topics...

I followed the solution posted which is to select Audio 2 if desired. However it is still reverting to Audio 1. :(

  • The problem is that Nero Video always selects the first audio track. Been that way forever.

It looks like you're working in Make Express Movie since you don't have the option to unlink the video and audio. In Make Express Movie and before you make any edits, click on Advanced Editing. The Unlink.... will work. As shown below, when I do that in Advanced Editing, the unlink option is available and you'll note that there is an audio track in audio track 1.

If only one audio track is shown when you try that with your file, I think you should select Export, Export Audio to File. Then open it in SoundTrax and delete the first track. As I said, I don't have a file to work with so I can't test if this will work.

  • When NERO Video opens, I select DVD, and then import my mp4, and click the 'EDIT' button. Is that the Make Express Movie mode you're talking about?

Obviously the user experience is pretty confusing considering it appears that the software will let me switch audio tracks, and even plays the movie with audio track 2, but when burned switches back - this should be fixed.

I'll let you know how this turns out.

  • When I procede as you do, it opens in Advanced Editing which is the screen shot I provided. As mentioned, you can switch to the other mode by clicking on it on the left hand side.

I came back in since I remembered about using Recode to select the audio track. Did you try the method provided by Mister_M in the linked thread?

As mentioned, I don't have a file with two audio tracks to work with, so I'm not sure if Nero Video will export both tracks so that you can delete one in SoundTrax and, after saving, import that back into Nero Video.

  • I did see he used Recode and saw that was a separate NERO product. I downloaded it, but it looks like it did not offer a trail version and expected a serial number. It wasn't clear.

I looked back at your screen shot and saw it indicating 'Express' on the left - so let me give that a shot and hopefully I can get this thing to burn with Audio Track 2.

Any insight on recode you can provide just for reference would be great.

  • Burning from Express editing won't solve the problem. The issue was being able to unlink the video from the audio and you can't do that in Express editing.

Which version of Nero Video are you using?

Got to get out of here. My girl and I reached 48 years together today. Got to take her out.

  • Sorry, I meant I noticed that you could switch between express and advanced. I was able to switch to advance and export the file. Although it was not clear where it went and just appeared in my library, when I clicked on it to view it in explorer, it took me back to my original file, weird.

I went ahead and ran a convert to DVD after the export to see if that did it, but I was on my lunch break so I'll have to check this evening.

Thanks and congratulations on 48 years together - that's pretty insane :)

  • Well, you cannot really compare Nero Video and Recode, because they serve different intents. Nero Video is mainly used for video editing and disc authoring whereas Nero Recode can only be used for transcoding video files and discs into another format. The advantage of working with both programs is, that you can get videos to work in Nero Video, that didn't work before, by transcoding them to a compatible format with Nero Recode.

Furthermore Nero Recode has the advantage of supporting several audio tracks, which can be deselected, so that the output file has only one track left. In Recode 2016 you even can jump to Nero Video directly for advanced editing.

Back to your problem: Unlinking the audio from video wasn't possible, right?

@ wither: Congratulations from Hamburg to you and your girl!

  • Hi Mister_M,

When I open up the file in the "Advanced" editor, I do see an "Unlink" option, and when selected this turns the audio track to a light blue.

What are my next steps from there to ensure that it uses Audio Track 2?

  • Hello Bob-

When you're in advanced editing and the video is on the timeline, select Export, Export Audio to File. Then chose .wav format and give the resulting file a name. Please upload that file to a website such as filedropper.com, dropbox.com, etc. and post the link here so that we can work with the file.

  • I've got Nero 12 and Nero 16 and neither will do anything other than revert to track 1 when burning or recoding even though I've set it to track 2. This is ridiculous - why can't the user define what he needs?

  • I’m Charlie
Back in the day say Nero 9, I take a bunch of photos like you would for a funeral, and I could add a continuous audio track made from individual mp3 files so that the pictures could have a continuous music background. There was also an option to record a voice to the audio by simply going to the record mode, speaking into a mike and saying something about each picture. It was time consuming to coordinate the voice with the photo showing on the video track. This option also let you add a second audio track with mp3 music for the background. Lastly, but not leastly, you could put a film of some beautiful landscapes, and play music in the background, or you could even sing songs to the music on the second audio track by recording them in the audio track making record mode. How would you go about doing that today.
