Recode 14 wants to install Nero 11. WTF!!

When trying to use Recode 14, when I press the encode button I get a pop-up saying I need to download more software. The software I wants me to download is Nero 11. WTF? Why would I need to d/l an older version to run the 2014 version? Besides I did d/l and install and even using the Nero 11 Recode I get the same bull$hit message. One other thing, this is a movie that I own and put on my hard drive and am now looking to put on my phone. I am using the hard drive files for the encoding.

  • Hey Timothy-

It sounds like you bought Nero Recode 2014 from the online shop. Are you using the serial number that should have been sent to you via e-mail?

Did you run the check for updates from the Nero ControlCenter (I guess it has that) after you installed?

  • First: What product have you bought?
Second: Can you add a sceenshot of the message?
Third: What exact version of recode do you have (see about box)?

  • @ Wither: I bought Nero 14 Platinum upgrade via an email from Nero News. I did indeed install the serial number that I got with the email (can't install it w/o it!) And yes I did run check updates (says all is good)..

@ Jens: As I stated above, It's 14 Platinum upgrade via download. I used the Nero Control Center to start the program, it starts with the Nero Recode 14 splash screen, so I have to assume it's 14, right? I had/have Nero 12 Platinum already installed on the system. Just tried the Nero 12 Recode...same result, so that's the screenshot I'm sending you. Up until I hit the "encode" button, it seems to work fine.

    Thanks for your help

  • It looks like the video you're trying to encode is a commercial video and it may be copy protected. If it is, it won't work.

    Here's what I recommend-

    Uninstall v14.

Go to Nero.com, Downloads. Download the trial version and install it. Insert your purchased serial number during the installation. Open the Nero Launcher and click on Your Product. Run the check for updates and install all, including those that may not be checkmarked. Open the Nero Launcher and click on Creative Content. Click on Download and install the Creative Pack.

If that doesn't work, it may be that the upgrade serial number you got isn't the correct type. There has been some cases where the wrong type of upgrade serial number has been provided. Keyword here is "type". In that case, you would have to go to AskNet or Nero Customer Service to get it straightened out.

  • It is a commercial video that I ripped (removing the protection). As I stated earlier, I own this video so I'm not pirating it. I actually am running the trial version from the Nero website. I thought the same as you that it could be an issue with the download I had in the email so I deleted the install, got the one from the website (it was a newer version) and installed it. The serial number works I assume as in control panel it shows as never expiring with my name. Thanks for the help. If it's only a matter of it not working with the commercial DVD (which as I said I ripped to my hard drive), it's unfortunate.

  • Buying media doesn't mean you can reproduce it. It depends on the source. There are three levels of security that websites use to determine whether or not it's material can be reproduced. As far as CD's and DVD's one buys in a store goes, I find audio CD protection to not work very well.

If you remove the copy protection, there's still no way to determine how Nero will react to it because sometimes protection removal isn't always pristine. Then we get into the issue that copy protection detection is now built into the firmware for the latest optical drives.

The main thing here is that you now are able to use Nero without all those error messages. I'm glad it worked.

    Enjoy!
