  • I wonder if I uninstall, then reload CD then click on saved update link and then put in my serial code will install missing wma in Wave Editor save? Seems weird that this would fix it. Hello Nero AG employees. Anyone on here? Suggestions?

  • So I decided to uninstall the mis-working Nero 9 and now I get a message that I can't re-install it. Nero claims to have employees to help people but they certainly are not helping me.

  • Hi Robert-

First, Nero doesn't support anything older than v2016 and I suspect that will end soon.

I don't understand what you mean by "downloading my disc and update link."

How did you uninstall v9. It must be uninstalled using the Nero General Clean Tool since it didn't use a Windows installer. You wouldn't use Control Panel.

If you didn't uninstall it first from the old computer, you will need to get the patents reactivated.

    However, here's my suggestion:

    Go here-

    http://www.nero.com/enu/downloads/pre...

    and download the installer.

Right click on it and select Properties.

Check the box to "run this program as administrator."

In the Compatibility tab, change the compatibility mode to Win 7.

    Apply the changes.

    Then run the installer.

    Does that work?

If it installs, you'll need to send an e-mail containing your serial number to patent.activation@nero.com. They should either reactivate the patents or give you an offline serial number.

  • Thanks for the idea but I'm thinking I need to write into the registry and activate a missing file line, which I do not know how to do. You asked, "I don't understand what you mean by "downloading my disc and update link."

Let me try to make it clearer = My old xp computer burned out the screen, the screen cable & the battery after a long life of use. So I removed the hard drive and got every application exe that I could find off it. One was from years ago = the Nero update that finally made my Nero work when I first bought Nero at a now defunct store.

So when I bought my new Dell with Windows 10, I wanted to put Nero 9 on it. So I installed from my box CD Nero 9 and tried it after it installed but it would not work correctly when I tried to change a MP3 to WMP. So I ran the old exe update thinking that it would make everything work. It installed okay but when I went to save a MP3 to WMP - WMP is not even in the dropdown list? What in the world!?!

So I thought maybe that update had clocked out or something.... so I went to the Nero site and downloaded their new update (the one you pointed to) with 2015 in the file name. But when I try an install that, it gets to around 66% and then a dialog box comes up that says, "Windows cannot find C:\Users\homep\AppData\Local\Temp\NERO1005488\setupx.exe and then it stops the update and I am back with a non-working Nero; missing WMP in the wave editor.

BTW, I also tried (after I did a clean removal) to install just my CD and then the new updated update from their site but it stops every time at 66% with the missing dialog message above. I did try your solution but that did not work either; still stops at 66.

Sorry I didn't write this all out the first time. But this is where I am stuck. I have not tested anything else since I do not have any home movies right now to check with.

  • If I remember correctly, 66% is one of the places that the installation normally stops for a somewhat extended length of time.

I think the failure to change a MP3 to WMP is because a WMP is a photo file. Initially, you said .wma.

Are you able to get to the specified path manually via Windows Explorer?

    • After much poking around and looking at another Win 7 machine - WaveEditor in the audio format settings under encoders this entry is missing from my recently downloaded update = APM_MSAxp.dll this entry is on the Win 7 machine titled Windows Media Audio. I'm thinking this is it but I have no idea how to get it back in there. Under Options in WaveEditor Decoders Windows Media is in there with the same extension name but in the encoders it is missing.
    • Look at this thing in the regedit = Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Nero\Nero9\NeroWaveEditor\AudioPluginManager

  • None of this has anything to do with installing v9 and you didn't answer my questions relative to that.

I don't know what version of WaveEditor you have on your Win 7 system. I have Nero v10 through beta v2019 on this Win 7 system and the .dll you're talking is available in all versions. As noted, after v11, v12 through the beta v2019 all use the same version of WaveEditor (the free one). I have v9 on my Vista system and the option to encode to .wma is there.

We can work on installing v9 or you can simply download the free version of WaveEditor and use it for saving your files to .wma.

    • Interesting. The standalone version of WaveEditor shouldn't replace WaveEditor in v9. It would replace it in v12 and later.

You'll never find all the Nero entries in the registry. There are many without "Nero" associated with them.

If you're good with it, I'll leave it be.

Happy 4th to you also. It's going to be hotter than a firecracker.................. :D
    • Hot here in Denver too. Yes I kid you not, downloaded Nero v9 after a complete uninstall, checked Wave, it did not have WM encoder, so downloaded the stand-alone. Once installed I checked Wave and it was gone from SmartStart. Anyways going to live with it. It's not something I use a lot but I do use it some.
