remove Nero 10 suite

How do I completely remove Nero 10 suite? I have uninstalled it via Windows Control panel and used the Nero CleanTool; however, there are still remnants on the system. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • What exactly is still on the system?
Also: Do you have another nero version on the system? Some parts are shared between different nero version, so of cause they stay until all versions are uninstalled
    • Of course there are parts shared by different Nero applications. But looking through the old and new forum shows, there are often advices to clear registry and file system for remanents of the uninstalled Nero SW.
What is not really purged should be known by devs not customers. ;)
    • Hi Jens, thanks for the response.

First, after a reboot, when I right click any shortcut or executable file, Nero 10 attempts to reinstall itself.

Also, the program_files/nero/update folder still remains which holds NASvc.exe and NASvcPS.dll files. Task Manager lists NASvc.exe as a running process which does not "kill", it returns "access denied". Trying to manually delete the program files/nero/update folder also fails (access denied).

Lastly, when I right click a file, "Burn with Nero" is still listed as an option.

I do not have another version of Nero on the system (as far as I can tell). If I remember correctly, I had an earlier version installed and then the Nero 10 trial version, before installing the Nero 10 suite.

  • Note that the Nero General Clean Tool is only for v9 and earlier.

Also note that if you had the v10 trial version installed and didn't uninstall it when you installed the full v10, it will still be listed in Programs and Features and you'll need to uninstall it. This may solve all the problems if it's still there and you uninstall it.

Run msconfig.exe. Check in the Services tab and disable the various Nero services (one will be Nero Update). You can also check in the Startup tab but nothing should be there unless you used nero for backups. Reboot.

In regards to file associations, you can go to Control Panel, Default Programs and remove v10 as being associated with any file format.

You might also want to go into AutoPlay and make sure Nero isn't set to perform any operations.

  • I believe I have success! I ran msconfig.exe and disabled Nero Update. This allowed me to delete the program_files/nero/update folder and ProgramData/nero.

Nero 10 still tried to reinstall itself after reboot. I searched the registry for "nero" and more than 800 entries still remained in the registry. I selected all, crossed my fingers, and deleted them all. The computer rebooted without issue. I was then able to delete program_files/common_files/nero. After a final reboot, Nero 10 did not try to reinstall itself and I don't see any right-click "nero" options.

    Thanks everyone for the help.

  • I'm glad we could help.

What are you going to do next in regards to video, audio editing/burning?
