render images to stay in 'safe video area'

When a rendered video is burned to DVD, the images are a bit too large - ok on computer but not on TV. Is there a way to have the rendering done so that images stay in the 'safe video area'? Thank you!

  • Hi Gary-

That sounds like a display issue on the TV. I don't know what the aspect ratio is for your original video. For, whatever it is, can you set your TV controls to that ratio? For instance, if they're 4:3, can you set the display to that?

if you have a digital camera, you might take a screenshot and post it here.

  • The images when displayed are slightly larger all the way around. For example, if there is some text near the top or bottom, it is partly off screen. The real issue is that the DVD I am making may be viewed by various people on various TV's. I will check on your suggestions related to my TV but have no control over others. I need to ensure that all of the images are in what I guess is called the "safe video area" so that they will show up properly on any TV. I see in Nero Video that this concept is mentioned, but only in relation to menus and not the final movie itself. I was hoping that there was some option I could select that would ensure that the rendering would restrict to the 'safe video area' but don't find any such option. If this is not available, what can I do with the images and videos themselves that are part of this project to ensure that they are small enough so that I can avoid this problem? Thanks again.

  • I don't know whether you started out choosing DVD, DVD-Video or one of the "Make" options. In either case, if all the things you want to see in the burned video are present when you play them back after importing the files, then they should be present on the burned disc.

The best I can determine is the same as what you said, the safe area only applies to menus.

  • No, all of the images and video clips in the final are there. It is just that they are slightly oversized for playing the dvd on the TV. I think I just chose DVD but will experiment with the other burning options to see if one of these produces better results. I really like Nero Video except for this one thing. Thanks.
