reorder video tracks Nero 17 video advanced

Unless I'm misunderstanding, there is a hierarchy of how the video tracks are layered in the video, with the higher number track being front-most.   Is there a way to re-order the tracks?  It's quite a hassle to have to cut and past them.   I expected I'd be able to drag the tracks to reorder them.

Thanks
Bill

RE: Reorder Nero 2017 Video Tracks.

TL;dr version (Too Long, didn't read):
Method I use to create a Nero Vision (Advanced Video)
    • Write short Storyboard
    • Create Project Resources folders for files you'll use.
    • Copy desired files to Project Resources folders (easy to import, quick to clean up)
    • Open Nero Vision > Advanced Video
    • Import resource files to Project Library
    • Save project (often)
    • Turn on Magnet snap in Timeline so new frames snap to previous
    • Timeline Video 2 is primary frame, Video 1 overlays and text FX.
    • Sort Project Library resources
(Unused to avoid duplicates; Date ascending for Chronological)
    • Set or adjust Duration for each frame, Video 1 text, or music
    • Play with transition FX between frames
    • Done? Click Play on Timeline to review entire project. Edit if needed.
    • Save project
    • Burn to Disc or Export (recommend MP4 with MP3 audio)
    • Check Disc or play exported MP4.
    • All OK? Delete Project Resource folders. (Quick clean up).

    Existing Project:
If necessary change from Express Video to Advanced Video
Video 1: (top) is overlay. I use Video 1 for Text FX like Credits (scrolls)
Video 2: (lower) is primary image. Apply transitions and other FX to each frame
Video 2 includes the embedded audio for a video file.
Audio: Add music files (typically Public Domain or personal MP3s)
Narration: Add your own narration with your mic or your pre-recorded narration.
Subtitles: If you have created Subtitle files (CC or different language), import them and place them here.

    Recommended or New Projects:
    Plan Frame order:
I plan a simple Storyboard (written or mental notes) before starting a Nero Vision project.

    Gather Project Resources
(Tip: Create New Folder for Project resources, with subfolder for Pictures, Video, Music, Audio/Narration, Captions, as needed).
The benefit of this approach is ease of importing resources into Nero Video.
When the project is complete and burned to disc or social media upload, just delete the Project Resource folders. Quick & easy clean-up.

    Copy Resources
For each category, select and copy item(s) to the Project resources folders)
    Pictures
    Video
    Music
    Audio (Narration)
    Captions

    Create New Project:
Open Nero Vision > Created Advanced Video

    Project Library:
For each category in your Project Resource folder, import desired files.
Next, set Library options to Show Unused Files. Sort by preferred view. I often choose Data Ascending for Chronological Order.
When Library items imported, SAVE project.

    Timeline:
In the Advance View Timeline drag the file for your first video (or Title Picture) to Video 2. Set desired Duration.
If you want a Title click Effects menu, choose Text or Credits FX, add to Video 1..
Move the Timeline cursor to the Video 1 frame. Right-click the Video 1 frame, click Edit. In Edit, choose preferred font, font size, font effects, then type the text. Preview the text scroll. Too fast or slow? Extend Video 1 frame duration. Review. When satisfied, click Done.
Click Video 2 frame, adjust Duration to match Video 1 duration.
    Save project regularly between edits.

    Build Project Timeline:
In order, add desired videos and pictures from Import Library (Tabs at top).

Tip: Click Magnet icon at the bottom right of the Timeline to turn on Snap so frames can be moved t4o snap to previous frame.
Optional: Add music MP3s to Timeline Music.
Add various transition FX between frames or music. Test with Preview.
If Burn to Disc, click Project Themes. Preview then edit or change theme.

    Timeline Complete:
Preview the video in its entirety. Save, click Next.
Burn to Disc, then test disc.
Export » Export to File (I recommend MP4 video with MP3 audio)
    .
    Finished?
    Delete Project Resources folders.
    Done!
    • John C:
I realise I am coming to this late after it was posted but, if you are still active please accept my thanks for the Storyboarding guidelines.
Just finished my first video by winging it and have realised the sort of discipline that you outline, whilst it might be tedious, bears fruit in the long run.
Anyway, storyboarding can be as much fun as producing.
I'll never get a job with Pixar

  • You can drag and drop your videos to the timeline, in Make Advanced Movie, or the storyboard, in Make Express Movie, in any order you wish. If you want to move them around after you've added them, click on the double, up pointing arrows underneath the left side of the viewing screen. You can then drag and drop them to change their order.

I don't have time tonight to completely address the rest of your post. I'll try to get back to you tomorrow if there's a more efficient way of doing things.

  • Bill,

As far as I know, you are correct both about the hierarchy and that the tracks cannot be dragged or otherwise renumbered..

    Just a thought ...

This is probably what Wither had in mind ...

If one were to use the "New Track" drop-down in advanced editing to introduce say track 4 and 5 ... (or whatever number is required)

(maybe need to switch to "Minimal timeline view" to see them all) ... then is it possible to drag the tracks one by one up to the "new track" locations ... and then drag them back down again one by one in the order you want?

Then "Delete empty tracks" to get back to "normal".

  • Hi, Bill,

Drag & Drop works fine as a fix for existing in-progress projects. I still recommend using Advanced Mode for new projects.

You can either import each media file as needed into the Project Library, then drag them in to Video 2 on the Timeline -- in order. Less need to re-order tracks

The comprehensive Pre-Production method I provided is a simpler modification of the methodology used by professional filmmakers and movie studios. Tested and proven.

The benefits of even a basic "Storyboard" (simple notes) are enormous. Craftspeople say, "Measure twice, cut once". Same applies to video production.

You get to be the Producer, Director, Script Author, Creative & Sound Designer, Production Manager, Film & FX Editor, and the whole Post-Production crew -- all wrapped into one person.

Fortunately, you have the full suite of professional Nero 2017 tools at your disposal.

Whichever method you use -- Have Fun!!
