Smart render not working

After editing a dvr-ms file in Nero Video 2015, when I export to an mpeg-2 file, the entire file is reencoded with loss of synch. I've tried with the standard box checked and unchecked. Why is smart render not working?

  • Hi william-

A number of people have reported sync problems when their projects are burned.

In some cases, the problem is dropped frames in the original video which aren't visible during playback. That is nomally fixed by using Recode to recode the files.

You can try that if you wish. If not, send an e-mail to techsupport@nero.com.

  • Hi William, would it be possible to provide us with a link of the source file for our checking? This would be great. You could use a free Nero BackItUp account to upload and share it here. Thank you very much in advance.

  • Since5.5,

It may be that William has a gigantic file that would take forever and a day to upload/download. I tried a test today with an ~8 GB, ~1h34m dvr-ms TV show. With SmartEncoding enabled, the space estimate was 3.8 GB; with SmartEncoding disabled, the space estimate was 4.37:

After encoding both ways, the results were out of sync with one another and the source. So, on to a more practical exercise that you can repeat easily.

I've uploaded a ~ 150 MB dvr-ms file for your amusement. I imported this into a DVD-Video (NTSC) project on track 1 and dupicated it 31 times to make an ~54 minute video. The estimated size was again different depending on the setting of SmartEncoding. I created two DVD-Video structures, one Smart, one NotSmart!

Then, I imported them into other tracks in the same project so that all three could be played together:

Now, I exported that, imported the result, cut out the middle, added text, and uploaded to YouTube:

So, a few mysteries from my perspective:

    1. What has SmartEncoding got to do with dvr-ms to DVD-Video?
    2. In that regard, enabling/disabling SmartEncoding changes the size estimates and the results even though the Burn Options screen indicates 0% smart encoding for both audio and video.
    3. Sync problems regardless of the SmartEncoding setting.

If you can explain the SmartEncoding role in any of this, please do.

P.S. Surely, someone at Nero has dvr-ms files that could be used also?
    • Since5.5,

I forgot to check the duration of the recording last night in Nero Video. The SmartEncoded file is 7 frames longer than the source; the Not SmartEncoded file is 7 frames longer than that?

Actually, individually, the video/audio sync is not that noticeable, but that doesn't make it right!

Hopefully William will upload an example of his files.
    • Since5.5,

A repeat of the above using Nero 2014 Video shows that enabling/disabling SmartEncoding has no effect on the output which is 3 frames longer is both cases. So, the two DVD-Video tracks play in sync, but the source track and either of the other are not in sync.

  • Since5.5,

This business of the SmartEncoding making a difference has been around for at least 4 months now. See topic Nero 15 Video DVD is pixelated/choppy. There, it involved .mp4 files.

I tried the original WTV file that I made the DVR-MS file from:

The discrepancies appear regardless of file type, .m2ts, .flv. .avi, .mkv, ... in low ot high resolutions. It also doesn't appear to matter if the "Standard" checkbox is checked or not!

It seems that the task for Nero, several months ago, would have been to fix it! Now, as it comes up again, "We are checking it",?????

Version 12 came out about 3 1/2 years ago, introducing an assortment of SmartEncoding/Automatic (fit to disc) issues. It would seem that, by now, some developer at Nero would be proficient in this business.

So, when can a true all-encompassing fix be expected?

P.S. On January 25 at 16:03, in the above referenced topic, Wither 1 states that, "The method of showing the size of the project was changed in either v14 or v2015 because of complaints from customers about how it was shown in previous versions.". Similar statements are elsewhere. Would you please address this?

  • Note that this is not a smart encoding issue but pure out of sync issue*.

Please help to review a hotfix and report back if this resolves your issues.

Please follow the step by step description below.

    Thanks

    Steps:

-Make sure you have the latest version of Nero Video 2015 (16.0.9000) installed by going to Nero Control Center, click on ‘Update’, and ‘search for Updates’

    - In case of an available update click on the button ‘Update now’ in the lower right part of Nero Control Center

-Download a hotfix from this link: http://nerobackitup.pogoplug.com/s/pF...

-Unzip OutOfSync_HotFix_NV2015.zip to your local disk

    -Backup NeAudio2.ax , NeAudioEnc.ax and NeSoundProc.ax for Nero Video2015

-The files are in NeroVideo 2015 install path SMC folder like “C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 2015\Nero Vision\SMC” for 32bit OS or “C:\Program Files (x86)\Nero\Nero 2015\Nero Vision\SMC” for 64 bit OS

-Copy NeAudio2.ax , NeAudioEnc.ax and NeSoundProc.ax from the unzipped folder and paste to SMC folder under Nero Video 2015 installation folder (same path as above)

    -Run NeroVision.exe

  • Video Doc,

This issue appears unaffected after replacing the 3 supplied files as instructed. I did not replace similar files in the BurningROM folder. Also, I assumed that the new "HotFix" NeroVision wouldn't need them replaced.

I tried with both the previously installed version of Nero Video and the "HotFix" version. On is as bad as the other.

So it looks like we still have the out of sync issue unfixed for the case.when exporting dvr-ms to mpeg-2.

  • Video Doc,

My test of this was rather quick and involved only importing the output VOBs to track 2 and playing the combined result, but it wouldn't hurt to have it reexamined! I can say that when exporting as an MPEG-2 and checking the exported file the same way using the test version (not the patched version), there is no apparent sync issue. So, perhaps, in this case, the sync issues are actually introduced when the VOBs are imported/joined?

I now have three versions of the NeAudio2.ax , NeAudioEnc.ax and NeSoundProc.ax files:

    1. Those from the installed Nero 2015.
    2. Those provided with the hotfix.
    3. Those provided with the test version of Nero Video

Are the latter two equivalent? They are definitely not the same. In other words, is the sync problem "fixed" in the test version?

Finally, please address my concerns in topic Today's Nero MediaHome "update" has degraded my installation.

  • Hi Omega tester:

to answer your question: in our tests with the number of reported issues related to 'out of sync' on one hand and 'smart encoding' on the other we identifed that there is no logical relation between fixing out of sync and fixing smart encoding for the reported bugs,

For this reason we shared two version:

    1. the out of sync potential fix in this thread which includes NeAudio2.ax , NeAudioEnc.ax and NeSoundProc.ax files:(in your breakdown this is #2)
for replacing the files in Nero 2015 (in your beakdown this is #1).

    2. We deployed and shared a binary version (your #3 in the above listing) with the intention to fix the smart encoding issues in the other threads. This version does not include the NeAudio2.ax , NeAudioEnc.ax and NeSoundProc.ax files:and is not intended for testing out of sync. In fact this version could solve Lucky Phil's issues here: http://forum.nero.com/nero_eng/topics...

Long Story cut short we will do re-testing with the samples, and anything related in order to fix this and the other reported issues.

Bare with us that this can only start beginning of next week..

  • Video Doc,

Since the SmartEncoding and sync "fixes are separate" (but not the issues), it's difficult to make any absolute statements. However, it does appear that the difficulties I have reported recoding with AC3 Pass-thru have not been addressed.

Here is one example that takes very little time to duplicate:

    1. Use Nero Video to export the Flower Meadow sample video with an extra music track as a Blu-ray compatible Full HD video with AC3 surround sound:
    a. Drag the Flower Meadow video to track 1.
    b. Drag the 50s audio to the music track.
    c. Adjust the cursor to 00:00:16:00.
    d. Drag the end of the audio clip back to the cursor. (Silence between clips below).
    e. Export as above.
    Or,simply download the result, 20150512_FlowerMeadowBlu-raySyncBase.zip [64 MB].

    2. Import the resulting video into a Blu-ray project and switch to the Advanced Video Edit screen. Use successive CTRL-A, CTRL-C, END, and CTRL-V to concatenate 64 copies.

    3. Burn with no menu using 100% SmartEncoding (but, see below).

    4. Recode the m2ts file to mkv using AC3 Pass-thru audio.

    5. Create a DVD structure with the mkv file as the source.

    6. Check the sync. If there is a problem, there will be a increasing lag of the audio up to over 2 seconds during the 20 minute video.

Note: If SmartEncoding is not used at step 3, no sync problem appears.

The lag between the mkv and vob files:

As I see things, this example demonstrates how SmartEncoding somehow introduce sync issues "down the line" which are very similar to many sync problems reported over the past several years and attributed to source file defects, etc. In other words, I think getting this and other "artificial" issues fixed would result in a very much improved Nero porduct.

In topic SmartEncodingNOT in Nero 2015, or "Here we go again!", nbdg223 2 days ago , asked,

    "OmegaTester,

You will recall there were many on this forum who experience async with audio/video in Nero 2012 and Nero 2014. I wonder if those bugs were ever fixed and if async issues still occur in Nero 2015? In the following thread link you list threads regarding async issues (scroll at least half-way down or more to come to your list). Hopefully VideoDoc can take a look at your async threads.

    http://forum.nero.com/nero_eng/topics... "

Here is the list referred to:

All of the issues in this list have been around for at least 10 months. There are others.

  • Hi Omega Tester,

thanks a lot for the reminder. I will check back with the team.

As I caught a serious flu I'm not working full swing right now. We are working on the open Nero 2015 reported issues, and I hope to get back to you with some results by end of this week.

    Thanks again.
    • Thanks for the info. Good luck with the flu. I'll be missing for a while, but I'll be back!
    • Hi Video Doc,

      Get well soon!

Once you've recovered from the flu, I wonder if you could advise whether the async bugs when converting to MP4 in Nero Recode 2014 and in Nero Video 2014 have been fixed in Nero 2015 ? (See OmegaTester's post just above).

Since MP4 is not supported in the Nero 2015 Demo, I can't test conversions to MP4. I don't want to pay money upgrading to Nero 2015 Platinum if there's going to be the same async issues (MP4 and others) since Nero 2012 that were also present in Nero 2014. I wonder if your team is working on fixing async issues in Nero Recode 2015 and Nero Video 2015 ? Thank you.

  • Video Doc,

Hopefully you are over the flu by now?

For the past several days, Craig, in topic Burning MP4 files to Bluray with Nero 14, has been describing/clarifying a SmartEncoding issue that exists for some MP4 files in both Nero 12 and Nero 2014. That issue appears to be identical in symptoms with the "blue bar" issue that appeared to have been introduced in Nero 2015. Hopefully, he will supply a sample that can be tested with the "test version" of Nero 2015 Video. It certainly wouldn't be good to declare that the SmartEncoding bug has been fixed only to find that there is another 'hidden' issue lurking. I would like to suggest enlisting Craig's aid in exchange for a free upgrade to a repaired Nero Video?

Although many of the sync issues listed above have been sent to the developers for further investigation, none of them have been explicitly acknowledged as something that will be fixed via email or forum posting. So, let me ask about one that was definitely not fixed by the recent "hotfix." I took the time to describe in detail above, on May 12th at 15:54, the steps necessary to duplicate the symptoms reported elsewhere using different source files. Has this particular bug been confirmed? Will a fix be forthcoming?

Assuming that the answer to these questions is 'yes', will the other issues be individually acknowledged, etc.?

  • Hi Omega Tester.

In our internal testing shows that we have an issue with AC3 pass through in Nero Recode leading to out of sync issues. We are working on that. We are not sure yet if and how this relates to the smartencoding issues in NV discussed in this thread. Stay tuned.

    • Video Doc,

Most of the issues I have reported and most of the issues reported by others were reported for version 2014 and before. For the most part, they were neither acknowledged nor fixed in subsequent releases. You arrived on the scene with two supposedly isolated "fixes" a couple of months ago. Neither was effective. It was my understanding that you would be returning with improved "fixes." Then, silence.

Requests by myself and nbdg223 for some feedback have been ignored. So, I found a way to get your attention! Because of the rules of the forum, I am unable to modify the post. Feel free to have the site administrator delete it.

Then, if you will, at a minimum please comment on the failure of the "fixes" to work on the first test I made and the last test nbdg223 posted.

  • As I already stated in different threads the reported issues by you and others have been phased into verification and fixing. So yes, your voice is heard and we have not forgotten about you. I can't promise that we will be able to fix everyrthing but this is a focused task, indeed. BTW the two pre-release fixes that you claim not to have been effective in fact were reported to be effective by some users. We are working on solutions to be released with the next product. Stay tuned for more infomation when the time is right (in about two months). As I said I' busy with the release and I am not a support person,
    • Video Doc,

In one thread, I indicated that one of the sync issues I had reported appears to have been fixed with the "hotfix". That was in response to a request from another user. However, that does not change the fact that other issues have not been addressed and at least one problem has been introduced.

I have asked repeatedly for acknowledgement of an assortment of sync issues to no avail. When the latest trials were posted, I immediately posted a case that was not fixed and, once again, gave explicit step-by-step instructions to replicate the problem. No acknowledgement has been forthcoming. The original issue was reported via forum and email over a year ago along with many others.

A request was made when the "fixes" were posted by you for users to check to see if their issue has been resolved. This is simply outrageous! There are paid employees that I would expect to do that:

      1. I discover a bug, 'A'.
      2. I report 'A'.
      3. A Nero employee replicates the 'A' bug and acknowledges it.
      4. The 'A' bug is "fixed" by the development team.
      5. The Quality Assurance team confirms that the 'A' bug has indeed been fixed.
      6. A software update is issued accompanied by Release Notes detailing that the 'A' bug has been fixed.

      as opposed to:

      1. I discover a bug, 'A'.
      2. I report 'A'.
      3. Nero employees ignore the bug.
      4. After repeated requests, a Nero employee states that the 'A' bug has been referred to the developers for further analysis, without acknowledging its existence.
      5. The Quality Assurance team .... Well, who knows?
      6. An apparently untested "test version is posted with a request to check it out.

And, now, I am informed that no updates will be issued. So, no updates to fix Nero 2014 bugs reported over a year ago, many of which are leftovers from Nero 12. No updates for the same bugs that exist in Nero 2015. And, once again, an "upgrade" in the form of Nero 2016 will be foisted upon the user base for testing? And, as a forewarning, we are, in effect, promised that some bugs will remain. What kind of company is this?
