I’m undecided

So Lost! Need some answers

Iwant to buy the Nero Platinum 2016, and several of the other programs. I was using a free version for a while, but my computer had to be overhauled, and they took out Windows-10 and reinstalled W-7. YAY! I just can't seem to find this answer in all the things I've read. Does the Platinum 2016 still stores, and lets you edit photos. And with the free trial, you couldn't share the photos. Can you do that with the 2016 version? Or do you need another product for that?
Thanks for any answers. I would really appreciate it.

What was the version you previously had? In v9 and earlier, there is the Nero PhotoSnap Viewer. That has been discontinued. The only editing you can do in later versions is within Nero MediaHome and the editing you can do is not nearly as extensive as you could do in PhotoSnap. Free programs such as GIMP, ACDSee, or Picassa are better.

What type of editing do you want to do?

It was the Media Home version I was using. It would let me download and burn music and it also kept all my photos, and yes I realize the editing was limited, I just wanted to know if the Platinum 16 included the photo section.
I have other apps that I also use for editing. piZap for fun stuff, BeFunky allows me to remove blemishes and wrinkles and several other things I'm not so great at. And for resizing photos, I just use Microsoft Paint.
I enjoy loading my music onto a program that I can then burn cdrs. And it's best if they work with iTunes and YouTube. I do not record and edit videos or dvds. Although I did make my first video of family photos on the Home Media, but I couldn't put music to it. Hopefully you can guide me one which product might be useful. Oh! Like I said, the MediaHome version was a free trial version, but it would often tell me to go to Nero BackItUp. I downloaded that, but quickly saw that it was no longer going to be maintained, so I deleted it.
There you go. My whole Clueless mess. My husband had Nero in the olden days that I used for copying some of my favorite songs and genres and burning them to cd. But that was during the time people were being fined big bucks for ripping off music, and my husband freaked a little and made me stop ripping and burning. But it was so simple to use, even I could do it. So I have looking at Nero products again.
BTW.....I forgot to thank you for your reply. They are always appreciated.

    • Hi Barb,
Nero Platinum does include Nero MediaHome, as does Nero Classic.

Nero MediaHome used to be a free download, but now they charge for it if you want it as a standalone product ($25 or so?) I'm not sure if it has all the functions though, that you enjoy when it comes as part of the Platinum package?

Maybe someone else can advise about that.

I agree with Lucky Phil but, it's not clear to me what features the newest standalone Nero MediaHome has. The official description doesn't mention the ability to burn any kind of disc other than a copy operation and the ability to burn a playlist. I guess that means you can burn a Audio CD.

If you buy v2016 Platinum (or Classic), you can burn your music to Audio CD in either Nero Express or Burning Rom. Of course, the music can't be copy protected.

I don't know what you mean by "And it's best if they work with iTunes and YouTube."

In Nero Video, you can create a slide show with your family photos to which you can add a separate audio file and burn it. You could also do that with Nero MediaHome in the past but it doesn't look like you can do that in the latest standalone version.

In my opinion, you would be best served by buying Nero 2016 Classic. Platinum primarily adds a bunch of additional features to Nero Video. of course, which one to buy is your decision.

Well, I want to thank you both for the advice. I recently had to reset my PC, and of course Nero Media Home was not one of the apps Microsoft reloaded. I had about a thousand pictures in there. :-( Then my PC started having more and more problems associated with W-10, so I took it to a shop I trust, for a rebirth and to reinstall W-7. I'm hoping when they backed up everything, those pictures were maybe still in there. I pretty much doubt it, but at least in kicked my butt into buying a 64GB thumb drive that I loaded all the photos I could in it.
I have no interest in copyrighting any music I burn to disc. It is strictly for me and maybe a few friends and family. When I did the last rip and burns, I ended up with 3 cds. A "Barb's 60-70's Classic Rock", a "Barb's favorite Country Western songs" (not much on that one) and of course since I was drinking age when Disco hit, I made a Disco cd. And of Course I would like to load music from my iTunes, You Tube and now Amazon Music to copy more songs by Barb.
Looks like I may just have to contact Nero, and tell them exactly what I want to do, and go with their recommendations. I just don't want to buy several packages I will end up never using.
Sorry to ramble on, and on, and on. That was conditioned into me by my mom, so it's kind of a disability. ;-) Thanks so much for offering advice. Like I said, I am so lost!! But, I'll get 'er done! All the best to you and yourn.

  • In regards to your comment about copyrighting, I think you misunderstood what I meant by copy protection. If use some program to rip files which are copy protected (doesn't matter if they're copyrighted), then you won't be able to burn them in Nero.

If you buy Classic (or Platinum), all the standard Nero apps are there. Things like WaveEditor, SoundTrax, etc. are free and can be downloaded form nero.com.

Well darn! I was almost finished here, went to double check something, I lost everything. So, I lost all of it. First, I a have decided I want to purchase (for new installation) the Platinum 2016 and a couple of other packages. However, I have to ask this question first. I recently started having problems downloading songs I purchased from iTunes. I won't get detailed unless you want more, but it appears that the folder that iTunes had been loading music to, is lost. The music I bought can't be downloaded because it can't find where it's supposed to go. I'm working on that.
The reason I had to ask before I commit to buying the Nero software, is because I started having the iTunes problems shortly after installing the Platinum Trial package. And the Home Media was downloading all my music files almost right away since I had not yet told it what to track. Everything I had in my iTunes account was copied in the exact layout, to Nero. Like a mirror image. It also copied my Amazon music.
Then after all the trouble started, I opened Nero Media Home, and immediately saw the number of total songs dropping. I reset it as fast as I could to NOT follow iTunes, but I suppose I was too late. Now, when I open the music files in Home Media, I find almost the complete list of music from iTunes and Amazon. However, what I am seeing now, are all the iTunes files including the 3 new songs I bought. But, depending on what list I had songs on, if I try to play anything from iTunes the list shows up, but it's like Nero doesn't see the song. It shows the name of the song at the bottom of the page, and how long the song is, but won't play it. And in other lists, it shows the song and it looks like the song is playing, but there is no audio, except an occasional noise (maybe background noise).
So, I need to be certain that the Nero trial package did NOT cause this problem, and it all is in an Itunes "stolen file" is what it appears to be what they are calling it.
I think iTunes is the problem. But it just nags at me that the iTunes problem didn't start until I loaded Nero. I still want to purchase a new installation of either the Platinum and some other software packages, or I just noticed an The Classic in your products, and it may be all I am looking for.
So, could I get an honest opinion on if it was possible that installing Nero started causing these iTunes problems? And if you are sure it had nothing to do with iTunes, if I purchase and install the real deal, could the iTunes problems I am having have any impact on my brand new Nero....whatever I buy?

Sorry about the long message. I had to dig to find this topic again. I couldn't find a link to HELP ME in nero.com. It must be for purchasing only? I will wait to hear back from y'all before I buy anything. And I really appreciate your patience with me. I can be bothersome when I get confused about something.

I have i-Tunes installed along with Nero v8 through V2015 on this system and they get along well. I admit I don't use i-Tunes. I installed it to have its codecs. Damn thing is constantly updating.

Nero MediaHome keeps a database of things it has found on a system. Even if the files are moved or deleted, it usually continues to display them. There's a way to get rid of that but I don't think you would want to do that right now.

In your opening remark, you said you lost everything. Did something happen to your system or are you referring to your remarks about Nero MediaHome?

Where are your i-Tunes files normally stored?

I don't know if it will accept your Nero MediaHome serial number but you can go to nero.com, support, contact, technical support and attempt to fill out the form.

You know? I am sure my iTunes problem was not caused by Nero. It was my fault for following instructions from someone on a community help forum, that maybe didn't even address the problem I was having, and who instructed to delete my "caches" under my iTunes file. And TBH, I am embarrassed to say, I don't even really know what a "cache" is. (color me stoopid!)
I am still not sure if I need the 2016 Platinum or if the Classic will take care of most all of what my limited experience can do anyway. But, if you would please direct me to the best place to buy the full software, (not the updates) then I am ready to go. I have wanted to purchase Nero again for some time, and even I am tired of my excuses.
I pay people to figure out how to fix my PC problems, and it's time I took the iTunes problem to them. So, a little guidance would be helpful. Like how best to purchase the backup and tune up packages. But, I'm done bugging you guys with trivial problems. Be forewarned though. Once I purchase and install the packages, you will certainly get tired of my questions again! :-)
Thank you for all your patience. Now, let's get the party started! (Sorry....I couldn't help myself) :-)

    • OH! I don't know if this was a good place to put this P.S. But I have one last question. I was just going over the "Products" at Nero.com, and one thing I noticed is that on the video I watched, it always refers to burning whatever to cd/dvd/blueray. Can I also load my photos to a thumb drive? It never mentions that. Last question. I promise!

  • Hi Barb-

It's a little complicated but, if you want to work with 4k or want to have more transitions, effects, menu templates, etc., than Classic, then Platinum would be the way to go. I usually recommend that.

In regards to loading your files to a thumb drive, I assume you mean "burning a video or slide show project" from Nero Video to a thumb drive. The only option is for a AVCHD-DVD, which needs to be played in a blu-ray player, if you want to play it outside of Nero. Nero MediaHome will play the AVCHD folder, not a disc. Note that v2016 doesn't have the ability to play physical Blu-ray discs. If I'm confusing you, let me know.
