Cannot edit text in Nero platinum 2017 video. The application does not present the fonts panel and the sample text cannot be selected or edited. The system is win7, all Nero updates are current, NetFX has been updated, no change when Nero was reinstalled.
I tried to send a fault report to Nero support via the NeroKnowHowPlus app but the app fails on two different machines when I click on send.

Text effects cannot be edited, no font window displayed--Nowhowplus fails when sending
-
Hi Peter-
I guess you've added a text effect to your project and, when you click on it and select Edit on the screen, the fonts don't appear? Does anything appear? -
-
The sample text is in the video panel, but the fonts panel does not pop up so that the text can be edited and clicking on 'edit' or the sample text in the panel has no effect. I am running Win 7 with Netframeworks 4.7.2 and no previous version is installed on the system. This program worked properly on this system until a few months ago.
-
-
I forget to mention that when I attempted to send a trouble report ... Nowhowplus didnt respond to the send command, so it kind of backed me into a corner.
-
-
When they switched to KnowHow, one had to be using Win 10 to use the KnowHow app. I have no idea if that applies to KnowHow Plus.
Go here-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Nero\Nero 2017\Nero Vision
Right click on the Nerovision.exe and select "run as administrator." Does that help? -
-
There doesnt seem to be anyway to contact support except by phone or fax. This didnt change anything, sorry. I think I have read your posts re a similar problem with 2019 and have also run the fixit tool.
I can move the frame around, resize it, the properties panel is open and I can adjust those parameters but the font bar doesnt pop up and nothing happens when I click edit or on the sample text in the frame. -
-
Go to C:\Windows\Fonts. Click on the folder. Click on Organize in Windows Explorer and select Folder and Search Options. In the View tab, check the circle to "show all hidden files and folders."
Does that help? -

Can you go to C:\Windows\Fonts and open the folder?
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling? If you want to try that, download a fresh installation file for Nero 2017 versions here-
http://www.nero.com/enu/downloads/pre...& -
-
Yes, the fonts folder opens just fine. I am running a full Adobe suite and MS Office neither of which have any problems loading or selecting fonts. The Font Cache service is running. I will try an uninstall and reinstall. I think I have done this somewhere in my first attempts to deal with this but I am now not sure if it was with the newer file version.
-
-
I suggested the reinstall since you hadn't mentioned doing that. Let me know how it turns out.
-
-
The suggestion was well taken as I had tried so many things that I wasn't sure where I left off, so going back to zero wasn't a bad idea. I ran the firstaid tool to make sure nothing was left over and reinstalled the updated platinun 2017 version but still no luck. The first couple of times I tried to boot Vision the system hung up on the splash screen but since then it has loaded as normal.

After you select Edit, wait about 5 minutes to see if the fonts appear.
If they don't, rename C:\Windows\Fonts to C:\Windows\Fonts (Old). Reboot your system. Does it create a new Fonts folder? If so, try Nero Video. -
-
The wait has no effect. Is there a rename trick. Explorer does not give a renaming option for the Fonts folder and the command prompt does not find a Fonts folder in the windows directory so it returns a syntax error.

You didn't answer my question.

the folder itself lists 418 items; if I select 'preview fonts' it lists 850.(so I'm not sure if it is over/under the 500 font limit)
-dir the windows folder does not display Fonts subfolder; REN returns a syntax error; though I began computing in DOS, I havent been back for awhile.
-the system also has Adobe master suite, MS Office 2013; Avid Media Composer and those apps all access the fonts properly
-I was not able to copy all of the contents of the Fonts file to a backup (as expected, some reported being in use or system protected) The reboot after moving the others did not attempt to regenerate the ones that had been moved. -
-
I didn't get into possible software conflicts. Some of the much older Nero versions had conflicts with software such as Ashampoo, Alcohol 120, Haali and maybe one or two others but I don't think Fonts was an issue.
I would rather that Jenny W help you submit a ticket for this problem. It has happened to some others and tech support should have an idea what causes it. -
-
Wither, I think C:\Windows\Fonts folder could not be renamed.
This issue has already been reported to product team. It is planned to get fix in next release. But for Nero 2017, there is no release plan yet. -

In another thread regarding this kind of problem in v2017, Loretta suggested creating a new user account and installing v2017 to see if that helped. Of course, you would need to uninstall it first.
In the same thread, tech support suggested the following-
1)Deinstall all your Nero products.
2)Load our First Aid Kit:
http://ftp6.nero.com/tools/NeroFirstA...
3)Extract the Zip-File to any folder using WinZip or 7-Zip and start the tool.
4)After the tool finished the work, you see "Finished cleaning up", please click on finish and restart your computer.
5)Start the Windows-Explorer-Filemanager (Windows key + E), doubleclick on the addressbar and enter %temp% - please delete all the files inside this folder.
6)Please navigate to the following path: C:\Users\"your username"\AppData\Local\Temp\ and delete the NeroInstallFiles folder (if available). Delete the C:\Users\"your username"\AppData\Roaming\Nero folder too.
7)Doubleclick on the addressbar again and enter this path: c:\windows\installer - create a new folder on your desktop and move all the files from the windows\installer folder there temporary, for the duration of the installation - afterwards, please move the files back to the installer directory.
8)Please make sure to deactivate your firewall and antivirus software for the duration of the Nero installation.
9)Now please try to install your Nero software again using the following link:
http://www.nero.com/download.php?id=n...
Click on the downloaded file with a right mouseclick and select "run as admin".
We hope we were able to help you.
Let us know if you have any further questions.
Kind regards,

Wither, Peter, I have to say the issue is related with the number of fonts in the system. Uninstall and reinstall won't help.
-
-
I did remove all the fonts except the protected system fonts and there was no change after a reboot with less than 50 fonts remaining?
-
-
Peter,
1. Please clear Nero Video cache in below folder and start Nero Video again:
C:\ProgramData\Nero\ACME
C:\Users\[current user]\AppData\Roaming\Nero\Nero 2017\Nero Vision
C:\Users\[current user]\AppData\Local\Nero\Nero 2017\Nero Vision
C:\Users\[current user]\AppData\Local\Temp\NeroVideo\
2. Open windows CMD window, go to C:\Windows\Fonts, use 'dir' command to see how much files are there.
3. Did you make a backup of fonts folder before you removing the fonts? Removing the system fonts may cause problem in other software. -
-
I can tell you I have 740 fonts listed (Vista) and I don't have any extra codec packs installed.
-
Correction: 708 fonts

Wither--I did a complete uninstall and removed all the remaining Nero files and folders but no change. My font count seems strange. Explorer/control panel shows 421 fonts; cmd DIR shows 1400. I will see what happens if I install on another (smaller) win 7 system
-
-
When I check the properties of my Fonts folders, it says I have 708 fonts. When I run a dir from cmd after changing the folder to the Fonts folder, it provides the same number.
Have you added any fonts other than the defaults? -
-
Yes, some fonts have been added, but only as required by print or design projects. Some post script fonts for the Adobe applications. The the fonts folder shows 421 fonts (in Explorer), but the DIR seems to break these down into separate files....for example....Times New Roman is the font...but I am able to see the normal, bold, bold italic, medium bold...etc iterations of the font as separate file entries. My understanding is that Win 7 has 235 fonts installed by default....however some of these are collections as the example above. I couldn't say if Adobe Master Suite or MS Office also installed fonts.
-
-
The win 7 laptop I am currently working on lists 238 items in its Fonts folder in Explorer, but cmd DIR lists 634 files in c:\windows\fonts. Explorer could be listing only installed fonts?? Neither system hides files or known extensions.
-
-
I did 'restore default font settings' in the control panel with no luck.
-
-
-
-
Yes, for me 'properties' is in full agreement with cmd DIR It is the open Fonts folder in Explorer or Fonts in the control panel that presents the disagreement. I wondered if the difference was that the properties is reporting the number of files while Control panel is reporting the number of fonts that the system sees installed??

Thanks, Yes I recognize the grouping and understand why there is a reporting difference. One is reporting installed fonts and the other file items. However, when installing a 'font' it is not necessary to install each variation separately. This goes to the question about the number of fonts on the system (for me) Is Aerial one font or is it regular, bold, bold italic, italic (4 fonts). The default system usually contains 235 'fonts' including all their respective variations as reported by the fonts folder. (sorry I dont have a new system running to check to see a properties or cmd report on the folder). In the course of attempting to resolve this issue the question has been properly raised about having 'too many fonts'. However I haven't yet seen any determination of how many would constitute a proper number. It is my understanding that the 'font limit' for windows 7 is 500 as reported by the control panel Fonts. I stand to be corrected about this for sure.

Interesting. Thanks.

Peter,
I went looking for any Windows limits on the max number of fonts permitted, but could find nothing definitive. I did find one claiming that too many fonts on a limited system (low RAM, slow CPU, etc.) would slow things down considerably. I finally noticed:
which led me to this:
No limits that I could find. But, more information on fonts than I knew existed! -
