Transitions do not work after scene detect

Problem:
None of the transitions seem to work between scenes that have been created with the "Detect Scene" function. Am I doing something incorrectly?

  • Hello Becker-

I've been in the forum every day for over 8 years and I think this is the first time anyone has identified that.

I tried it and I have to agree with you. However, I found that when one selects "scene detection", the default length is 27.3 seconds. Maybe that works for a 2 hour video but I found that setting it to around 10 seconds results in the transitions working. Note that the default transition length for a transition is 1 second. I changed that to 8 seconds just so one can easily see it.

Which version of Nero are you using?

  • Thanks Wither,

I'm using Nero 2015 Platinum with the latest update. First, I have no clue what this "Detect Scene" is doing. I use Video Studio and scene detection detects scene changes, all of them. Nothing I do can get Nero to detect every scene change, not even close.

But as described, once I do get some scenes detected the transitions will not work except for the lead-in transition. I tried the changes you described above with no success.

So, detect scene is a real head scratchier for me and transitions after detect scenes is a real fail.

    Becker,

I've replicated your issue using cuts (manual scene detection!). It appears to me that some transitions work while others do not.

To illustrate the issue, I've exported a video comprising two Nero Flower Meadow sample videos for a total of about 35 seconds. Download Two Flower Meadows here..

I imported the video into Nero 2015 Video and added it to the timeline twice. Then I cut each video in half. I added a Dip to Color transition to the first cut and a Circles transition between the two videos and at the second cut.

The Dip to Color transition over the first cut works; the Circles transition works between the videos but not over the second cut:

This is a matter for Nero Tech Support. If you write to them, please refer to this topic. The bug exists in Nero 12, 2014, 2015, and 2016. I don't have Nero 2017 to test.

  • What I found this morning is that the transitions are actually working but, for some reason, no matter what duration I use for the transition, it is only visible for a fraction of a second, except for a transition added to the start of a video, which plays properly. That's using a 15 second scene detection. Since I had added the transition to the start of the video and then applied that transition to the remainder of the clips for these tests, I found the transition at the very end of the video plays properly. When I added another video to the very end, that same transition works properly.

If you import a video into Make Advanced Movie and right click on it in the media area, you can select Scene Detection. After it's done, the original clip plus the detected scenes are shown. If you drag one of them to the timeline, add a transition to the start. Then right click and select "set transition to............", it will add the transition to the end of clip. Then when you drag the next scene to the timeline, that transition should work. Then right click on that transition and select "set transition......" Repeat as desired. I found it works best if the transitions between the added videos are centered.

However, the latter is a lot of work and one shouldn't have to do that if scene detection is made after a video is dragged to the timeline.

    • Wither 1,

I suppose that if scene detection worked, the method you've described could be used. But, that doesn't solve the problem of placing transitions across any necessary cuts.

You didn't say if you can see any "transition pieces" flying by as you watched the YouTube video. Did you watch it? If so, did you see anything?

It is not up to Becker to report bugs in Nero 2017. Like me, he doesn't have Nero 2017. So, if you want to actually help the millions and millions of future Nero users, please use your special access to have these transitions fixed. It wouldn't hurt to also deal with the many others that exist. They keep popping up, version after version:

    • Wither 1,

In order to make it very clear that no transition artifacts are in the last video posted, I've made a new video using frames saved from the previous video. 180 frames were saved starting 14 seconds into the video so that the "cut" would be covered. Each frame lasts for one second, so it should be very easy to notice any "Circles" artifacts. I'll assume that you will not see any! Enjoy!

  • I only have Nero 2015 Platinum, so not sure how the others work, I want to thank you both for all your time spent troubleshooting this long, long existing problem. i only have used the cross fade, so others may or may not work, but the program just blows by every cross fade I have inserted, except as you have observed the first and last.

I hope to hear back from tech with a fix next week. Or is that just a lot of hoping for nothing?

    Thanks people.

  • "Blur Fade" worked and "Additive Blend" did something (screen went brighter)), but not sure what it's supposed to looks like.
    • Becker,

So, a workaround would be to use a "working" transition. You can quickly test them by dragging replacements onto the one previously placed.

As I recall, Nero has declared that no updates to Nero 2015 will be issued. In fact, the errors they did fix were included in Nero 2016 without updating Nero 2015. So, if the problem still exists in Nero 2017, maybe they will fix it in Nero 2018?
