Which Nero version do you have? Do you have any problem playing back the Video on your computer ? Any problem importing other mp4 video files ? please try to describe your problem as detail as possible.

Eyitayo Oyekunle March 03, 2019 06:27I think i just found a solution to this because I had the very same problem. It is not a technical ot softwares problem. It is because your video files are not compatible for nero yet. You need to first: convert your video to a special format with special softwares. I had to use Total Video Converter to convert them to format options like dvd, vcd, svcd, blue ray etc. By the time you finish with that convertion, your video files would load on nero, you could then proceed to burn it onto CD or DVD.EditDeleteRemove

Wither 1 March 03, 2019 16:00There's no need to use special software for mpeg-4 if the patents are activated. In the last post of this thread, he's was able to use mpeg-4.EditDeleteRemove

I brought nero platinum 2014 a few days back. video is fine just playing on my pc and no other mp4s will work :L
-
-
After you installed v14, did you go to the Nero ControlCenter and run the check for updates?
Also, mpeg-4 files require patent activation. When you open Nero Video has it ever asked you to register? -
-
I did update and no it has never asked me to register. Someone told me it could be something called codecs? Do i need a certain codec or something?
-
-
The codecs are there but, as I said earlier, the patents have to be activated. Nero has to pay a licensing fee to the patent holders for mpeg-4, .m2ts and .mts for each person who uses Nero. Those fees are included in the price of the Nero product but aren't passed on until the patents are activated. Normally, you would be asked to register after you imported one of those files into Nero Video, Nero Express or Nero Video and then tried to process it.
I'm not absolutely sure that's the problem but, send an e-mail to patent.activation@nero.com, which includes your serial number and ask them to check to see if the patents are activated and, if not, activate them. -
-
-
-
Since it's the weekend, they should get to it tomorrow. Let us know how it turns out.
-
-
They replied back saying
'We checked your serial number and the activations for patents have not been used.
In order to activate the patent, the file “NeroPatentActivation.exe” needs to access the Internet.
Please disable your anti-virus software as well as firewall then try to activate it again.
If the problem still persists, kindly contact us again.'
Where do i find the file NeroPatentActivation.exe? -
-
That's strange, as I understand it, they usually just go ahead and activate them.
You'll find the file here-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Nero\AdvrCntr6 -
-
In program files x86 i have no common files folder. but in program files i do but no nero folder there. should i email them back and ask if they can just activate them for me?
-
-
If your Nero files are in C:\Program Files, then you have a 32 bit system.
Are there any other folders in the Common Files folder? -
-
My nero files are in the x86 folder but the common files folder is in program files. i just need to know how to activate the patents. i found the file but it just flashes cmd and closes again..
-
-
What exactly happens when you try to insert the video?
do you get a prompt about patent-activation? -
-
Jens- I had asked him to e-mail the patent activation personel. He did and now he's just asking about something that the patent activation people asked him to do. At this stage, I think Tom should just go back and ask them to activate his patents since the Neropatentactivation.exe file isn't working.
-
-
I don't think so - before neropatentactivation.exe is called, an activation dialog appears, that also offers the option to do an offline activation.
So, this seems to be another problem.
But we would need to know the details from tom. -
-
I'm fully aware of how it's supposed to work but, I asked him if he's been requested to register from Nero Video and he said "no", in an earlier post. That's why I asked him to contact the patent activation people.
I have a feeling we're misinterpreting what the patent application people asked. I think they're supposing that he is getting asked to register and it's not working because either anti-virus or a firewall is blocking access to the internet. However, if he's not being asked to register, it's a mute point.
If the patent activation people don't want to activate his patents, then the only thing I could suggest is to uninstall and reinstall and then try a mpeg-4 in Nero Video again. -
-
Please stop to guess.
Tom should simple say, what he is doing and what is happening - in special, what dialog appears.
Afterwards we can discuss how to solve the problem. -
-
Really!
The point being ignored in this thread is that Tom was directed by a Nero employee to go on the internet with all of his internet protection disabled:
"In order to activate the patent, the file “NeroPatentActivation.exe” needs to access the Internet.
Please disable your anti-virus software as well as firewall then try to activate it again. "

As alreay written: First, we need to know what exactly happen and what error-message is displayed - then we can do further investigation
-
-
Jens,
First, Tom needs to be told by someone at Nero that there is no circumstance in which it would be advisable to disable his anti-virus and firewall and subsequently connect to the internet.
Would you please do that? -
-
-
-
I honestly think that the patent activation people are making this a bigger deal than what it really is. In the past, when we've asked people to contact them, the patent activation people activated the patents. No muss, no fuss. I don't know what's different this time. He does have a valid serial number.

Come on Armand- you've always been a wuss about this. We've solved hundreds of Nero problems by having people temporarily disable anti-virus and I've never heard of anyone getting a virus or anything else in the short time it is disabled.
Did you know that the Windows Firewall is disabled in Win 8? That's because Microsoft Security Essentials is installed by default. In fact, on any OS where MSE is installed, the Windows Firewall is disabled.
To overcome your concern, people can create a system restore point beforehand.
I don't know which anti-virus Tom is using. Some of them have their own firewall and that is the thing that I would like to see disabled.Tom would have to identify it.
I have to agree with Jens that something isn't right because Tom has indicated that some Nero files/folders aren't where they should be. I don't know how they got to where they are.
Tom, where are you on this?- view 1 more comment

I like that analogy and I guess I'm one of those for the purposes of solving Nero problems.
I don't have time to pursue looking for old problems or to pursue what I said about Win 8. Actually, Windows Defender replaced MSE in Win 8 but you can run the two together. I can't find my source for the comment about MSE disabling the Windows Firewall.
I had over 22,500 posts as Wither in the old forum. I also had a few hundred more under another moniker. -
-
I assume that you like the analogy because it's "spot on", if I do say so myself!
Now, it is true that when you make your random recommendations to users, they are free to ignore them or not. But, as I have said before, you should be more careful since, with that "Nero" icon, you lend the impression that you are a Nero employee and may be mistaken for someone who knows what they are talking about.
But then, there's the case of Jens, a bona fide Nero employee, who approves of the outrageous recommendation that Tom disable his anti-virus/firewall. To his credit, he was actually trying to ascertain exactly what was happening to Tom before the "noise" began.
Unlike in your case, something can be done about Jens and hopefully someone at Nero with the authority to do so will "take him out to the shed."
I objected to these nonsense recommendations a couple of years ago and Nero subsequently added, "Disconnect from the internet prior to deactivating your virus scanner." to their support FAQ at the time as I noted in this post. I haven't traced back to the beginning, but topic Disable anti-virus software for download/install ???? from June, 2012 is a good starting point if you want to review!
P.S. As far as I know, your systems run Vista and Windows 7. So, any statements you make about Windows 8 is what the lawyers would call hearsay. Who knows where you've read whatever it is you think you know about it? Perhaps, you've misread, misinterpreted, or totally missed the point of some legitimate post on some random site you've googled? On the other hand, perhaps you've accurately represented the misinformation from some random site you've googled your way to?
P.P.S. As I think you know, my system is running Windows 8.1 Pro. -

i tried disabling my antivirus and firewall but im still having problems, if i recorded what was happening and put a link on here would that help?
-
-
Tom:
Please first describe what exactly you are doing and most important: What happens? Do you get any error-message? -
-
Ive just recorded a video on what is happening. My internet is connection is fine. My antivirus is turned off. My firewall is disabled. When i try and insert one of my mp4 files i get an error. when i insert other mp4 files it seems it is absolutely fine. When i try opening the patent activation window it flashes open a empty cmd window and quickly closes. I will send you a link to the recorded video soon.
-
-
Oh and all the files are where they should be i just was not looking hard enough, my bad..
-
-
> When i try and insert one of my mp4 files i get an error.
a) What error do you get exactly? Best: Add a screenshot
b) Can you playback this mp4 file in mediahome
> When i try opening the patent activation window it flashes open a empty cmd window and quickly closes
This is normal - the patentactivation.exe is not designed to be open directly.
But: As you said:
> when i insert other mp4 files it seems it is absolutely fine
This cannot be a problem of the patent activation -
-
It appears that i am no longer getting an error. so confused now but i think the patent activation has fixed it, ill try and see if i can burn my blu ray now and see if i have any problems. Thanks:)
