  • Was it at the start of trying to open the Suite or trying to run a specific application from within it?

There used to be a problem trying to run Nero Vision that sometimes was solved by running the actual .exe file as administrator.

e.g. Find nerovision.exe Right click on it and select "run as administrator".

Could be found in the directory:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Nero\Nero 10\Nero Vision

Maybe if your desktop icon is running Nero StartSmart you could try the same thing:

Find nerostartsmart.exe Right click on it and select "run as administrator".

Could be found in the directory:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Nero\Nero 10\Nero Startsmart

  • Could be that your directory view is set to hide file extensions.

You can alter the Windows directory view to show the file extensions which will help to locate these executable files.

This web pages guides you on showing file extensions in Windows 7:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/wi...

    For Windows 8 ...

Go to the View tab in WIndows Explorer and tick the box for "file name extensions"

  • Hi Margaret,
It may be a good idea to re-install the software. You would need to know your serial/licence number just in case things go wrong after uninstalling and re-installing the software.

Now, I think there is a way to find the serial number from the registry, but I can't find the information on how to get that at the moment (I'm not a Nero employee, just a fellow customer) ... So I'll have a hunt around to see if I can find out about retrieving the licence number.

  • Oh, I think I found how to get your serial number ... as per these instructions:
Please note: DO NOT post that serial number on this forum - just write it down for your own purposes ...

Click Start to open the Windows start menu.
    ->Select Run from the menu
-> The Run window will open.
Enter "regedit" in the "Open" text field and click the "OK" button.
-> The Registry Editor window will open.
You will find your serial number on the left side in the navigation tree.

On 32bit-systems please follow the path:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Nero\Shared\NL10

On 64bit-systems please follow the path:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Nero\Shared\NL10

-> Your serial number is displayed next to the "Serial10" entry. It is structured as follows:
    xXxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx
    Write down your serial number.

  • Once you have noted down your serial number, just for safe keeping, you can then uninstall Nero 10 using the windows add/remove programs.

Not sure if there is a separate removal for the content pack too?

Anyway, uninstall all the Nero items that are showing in the add/remove programs of Windows.

Then, after removing the programs, reboot your PC.

Now, you can find a fresh copy of the Nero 10 software and content pack from this website below:

    http://www.nero.com/ena/downloads/pre...

Look down the page a bit for "Nero Multimedia Suite 10" and use the "update" button to download the software again.

    Also download the "Creative Packs"

Install the Nero 10 suite and check for updates, installing any updates that are there. (Check to see if your serial number is automatically put in the licence area, or if it is not, type it in manually from the note you took earlier.)

    Then, install the Creative pack.

Good luck, and please let us know how it goes.

    I really appreciate your help.

  • Hi Margaret,
I forgot to ask ... which version of Windows are you using?

    Windows 7 or 8 ?
    Windows Visa or XP?

There are different methods to get to the run box depending on which one you have.

  • Sorry not to have asked that earlier....

With Windows 7 one way to get to the run command box is:

Click: Start - All Programs - Accessories - Run

That should open the run command box.

In that run command box, you can type in the word regedit
and enter to open up the registry.

Then in regedit click on the "+" marks to expand the appropriate registry entries to find the serial number.

click on the "+" next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
then the "+" under that next to SOFTWARE

etc ... until you find the entry at the end of the registry tree as per below:

On 32bit-systems please follow the path:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Nero\Shared\NL10

On 64bit-systems please follow the path:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Nero\Shared\NL10

-> Your serial number is displayed next to the "Serial10" entry.
(Over on the right hand side) It is structured as follows:

    xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx

Write down a note of your serial number.

    Then just exit/close regedit.

Then you can go ahead and follow the steps to uninstall the Nero software via Windows control panel - remove software as noted in the reply earlier on.

You get to the uninstall area by via: Start - Control Panel - Uninstall a Program.

  • Hi Margaret,
Is Nero 10 now working - apart from missing the menu content packs?

Also, when you start Nero Control Center (From the Start - All Programs - Nero - Nero 10 - Nero Control Center)
Is your serial number showing in the serial number section next to Nero Multimedia Suite 10?

    If it is, that's good.

If not, you can click on "add" and enter the serial number in.

The creative packs you would have downloaded from this web address:

    http://www.nero.com/ena/downloads/pre...

For example, down near the bottom of the page, the download button for NeroMenuTemplatePack1 is in this area: (click on the picture to get a closer look)

You fill in your email address and then click on the download button.

That should have downloaded the Content package NeroMenuTemplatePack1.exe file to your default browser's download folder. (Probably your C:drive downloads folder.)

You get to your downloads folder by clicking Start - Documents - Downloads

The file icon for the NeroMenuTemplatePack1 looks like this:

If you can find that file in your downloads folder, just double-click on it to install that content pack.

If nothing seems to happen after a few minutes ...
It may need to be run as Administrator.

To do that - find the file again and this time right-click on it once, and choose "Run as Administrator".

Similarly, download the content pack 2 and once it has finished downloading, double click on it to install that content pack.

    If all else fails ....

As NeroUser has mentioned above ...

Perhaps an email to Nero Support, mentioning the problems you are having to:

    techsupport@nero.com

Will be of more help to you.

Please let us know how things turn out.

  • I started getting the same error message with Nero 11 after I installed Nero Media home. I got some updates to Nero shortly after (gone now, but something starting with "pre", versions 2 and 3). I tried downloading and re-installing Nero 11 again, same error. I did a system restore to before the updates, same error. Uninstalled MediaHome, still had same error. Finally did a system restore to before I installed MediaHome, and all is well again.

  • What you got was Prerequisite installers 2 and 3. There should also be a 4.

Did you install the free version of NMH while you had v11 installed or were you doing updates?

  • I’m ok, but afraid to do any updates
I had an old version of NMH installed, and decided to bring it up to current; it was shortly after that when the prereq installers started doing their thing, and the next time I went to do a video with Nero 11, it was broken. I'm staying far away from NMH from now on.
