Unzip Video File

Friends United By Nero, has anyone ever downloaded video in a zip file? How does one unzip the content to make it useable for viewing and burning? This would be the content of the Internet Archive located at archive.org. My package is Nero Multimedia 10 on Windows 7 64-bit. I look forward to hearing from forum members as usually someone familiar joins in. My failed solutions involved using first 7-Zip and the Universal Extractor.

  • Windows has a zip program. Just double click on the *.zip file and it will open. Now drag and drop the archived video file into a folder of your choice to unzip it.
You can also download and install 7zip, WinRAR or other unzip software.

Above I stated that I already tried 7-Zip. Now, I just tried right clicking on the zip file and clicking on Extract. The resulting message stated that the file was empty. I will have to download the file again. Double clicking does not open the folder. This morning my Internet was disconnected. Perhaps the loss of connectivity caused corruption in the file. I am going to delete the file and download it anew. Thanks for the response. This evening I suspected that I was right about the lack of connection corrupting the file. Now that I have movies that play, I just have to burn them to discs. A previous thread I started might solve that problem. Thanks again.

Earlier this week I just realized that, in order to burn these unzipped video files in a way that they will work in a typical DVD player, I will have to burn them as image files. Can anyone advise on how to do that?

  • Hi Louis-

You will have to author the video files into the DVD-Video structure using Nero Vision to produce a DVD that will play on a standalone player. You can burn it directly from Nero Vision.

If you don't need to do a lot of editing such as cutting, adding effect and transitions, etc., just open Nero Vision and select Make DVD. Import your files. You can add chapter markers in the Content screen and do some minor editing. When you're done, click on Next. You will be in the Menu Editing screen where you can create menus or elect not to create a menu. You can then preview your project in the next screen and burn in the next screen.

If you want to make it more fancy, use Make Movie or Slide Show. Import your files and add them to the Timeline and edit away. In the next screen, it will ask you want to do and you would select Make DVD with edited.......... and DVD-Video. The next screen will take you to the Content screen the same as in the last paragraph above and you continue as I described.

    This is a simplified explanation.

We can help you with any questions.

  • I’m confused
Wither 1, I just revisited one of my former threads. In a similar project, burning from a physical DVD to a blank one, we used Nero Recode. Here, we are using Nero Vision. I have not had time to test this out. My large flat screen TV is new and I had to make room for it in place of my old picture tube. I have not made all of the device connections yet; so I have no means yet to project the video. My computer and the TV are its only connections since I do not subscribe to cable TV. Sometimes it does a hack job on the computer defaults for volume control. My receiver also connects to the computer, as it always did for audio streaming, my only means of radio reception. I find that I have to disconnect the TV when not using it. This may be independent of the computer; but while either streaming or playing CD's on my regular DVD deck, the receiver shuts itself off. However, I must make my device connections before I attempt to play any burned videos.

  • I didn't look at any of your other threads. What you were doing before was recoding a DVD that already has a Video_TS structure (DVD-Video) to another disc. That's different than what you said you wanted to do above. If what you have is video files, i.e., files with extensions like mpeg-4, wmv, etc., then you have to use Nero Vision to create the Video_TS structure before burning the disc.

You said that you had to create image files. That isn't necessary.

Wither1, I didn't get anywhere with it. Frustrating as it is, despite having done it before, opening up both MediaHome and StartSmart, I couldn't load a video file. When I did it before, I probably used drag and drop. Nero Recode did not have a feature where I could load the filed I wanted to burn. There are three versions of the file I have in a video folder. The one I wanted had the mp4 extension; but I could not distinguish it from my other files.

  • there's no way to open the file in StartSmart.

If you add the folder containing the extracted files to the Nero MediaHome Library (by selecting Options, Add manually), and then open Photos and Videos, the file which is a valid video should display. You might have to select the folder first, depending on what's in your Library.

Wither 1 and Lucky Phil, I added these files to MediaHome manually. They only show as folders. I did a job yesterday burning one file to disc. It does not run as a movie. The bottom right said to insert another disc. In the top left, it gave mp2 as the extension. The disc only shows one still and does not play as a movie. Windows Explorer shows two folders on the disc. One is an empty Audio folder. The other Video folder shows 6 files, 2 with each of these three extensions, BUF, IFO and VOB. Since it does not play as intended in my computer, we can guess that it will not play in a DVD player. In MediaHome there is another file I can try burning. Of the two files in the Library, neither extension shows as it does in Windows Explorer when I try to add it manually to MediaHome, only the folder shows.

  • The structure on the disc, as you described it, is correct when you burn a DVD-Video. The actual video is in the form of vts...............vob files in the stream folder. It sounds to me like you have some corrupted files or they may only be photos.

Extensions don't show in NMH when viewing Photos and Videos. You have to click on the "i" on the toolbar on the upper right hand side after clicking on a file.

Would you mind sharing your files? You could post the .zip file at filedropper.com and post the link to them here.

Wither 1, I now see that you want the actual files, not pictures of them. Here are the links: http://www.filedropper.com/videots_98, for the first file; but I just figured that you can highlight all of them. This site would not allow me to sign up with an individual account; but fortunately I had PayPal. I'll take that up with them; but I don't see much technical support there. There are two links they provide under Personal Settings: http://www.filedropper.com/filemanage... and http://www.filedropper.com/filemanage.... I hope you can link to them. They did not require me to compress these files; so I presume that they are in the correct format for uploading.
    • Louis,

I just downloaded the file VIDEO_TS.BUP using the first link you provided. That file evidently was uploaded from within a DVD-Video VIDEO_TS folder. The actual video in a VIDEO_TS folder has a .VOB extension. The other two links you provided go to a sign-in screen.

I haven't read this thread thoroughly, but I'm guessing that you are trying to transfer the VIDEO_TS folder. If that's the case, right-click on it, "Send to" compressed file, and then upload the resulting .zip file to the cloud.

If I've misconstrued your meaning here, please clarify or simply wait for the vacationing Wither 1 to come by.

Wither 1, I had better luck with Dropbox than either OneDrive or any other version of this Cloud garbage. If you are referring to some compression procedure inherent in Windows, then now it does not work for me. However, without going through the same procedure I did before to restore that feature, which may not have worked for all the extensions involved, I used 7-Zip. To accomplish the compression, I had to copy the contents into a new folder and compress it there. You should be able to view it on the site.

Omega Tester, it sounds like Wither 1 is getting a raw deal! Anyway, I assumed all along that Nero moderators had login accounts with filedropper.com; otherwise they would not have sent me there. It looked like I had to establish an account there in order to use the allowable volume. Anyway, though they give access with no account, I was able to login and see what I just uploaded. There must be some racket they have going here because files are there that I took off. I did not fool around with this because I did not want to clear these files at the expense of loosing the zip file I want Wither 1 to see.

  • What I asked for is the original .zip file, not files on a burned disc, so that I could extract it to see exactly what he has and to see what I or anyone else can do with them. We've spent a lot of time going round and round on what type of files are within that original .zip file. We've already answered the original question and the question about having to burn image files.

Wither 1, I just realized I did much unnecessary work. There is already the original zip file in My Videos under the name of the movie. I will upload that. Forgive the misunderstanding as well as my good intentions that I cannot carry out this way. The original zip file that I had to unzip to obtain the video is 3.06 GB. Filedropper.com is not allowing me to upload it, though it might help if I could delete what I previously uploaded. This site is weird because it does not give me back the space after I deleted the previous files. This is all misleading because the original signup plan is supposed to allow 5 GB. Please inform me when you access the file because I will then cancel out of this filedropper.com. They are giving me difficulty raising the level of my previous account causing me to start a new one. Now they are not letting me upload the file. Now that I increased my subscription level, the maximum they allow is 1.9 GB. This is not as simple as they portray themselves. I have run out of options in getting this file to you.

Wither 1, I think I am getting this now. Without logging into the account, I just attempted to upload the original zip file with the movie (from the Internet Archive). Now that I looked at that page, I do not know if it worked. Having just attempted it again, it didn't work. Do you think we can access it from either Dropbox or OneDrive? I just attempted it on Firefox in stead of IE11. It flashed a message for a second at the start of the upload and went back to 0%. I just emailed them, noticing the Contact link which I did not notice before.

  • After the file uploads, it should provide a screen with two links to your file. One link is a html and the other is an embedded link for posting in a forum. You can use either one.

Use whatever service you want for the upload. As long as we can download it from the link you provide, that's all that matters.

Wither 1, it is going to take time; but I just learned how to link folders on Dropbox. With patience I will send you the link. Dropbox is uploading the zip file now. However, now that the upload there failed about four times, as it did in OneDrive, I am now back on filedropper.com.
Finally, I figured out that my impatience was the problem there, thinking that filedropper.com would upload automatically. It is a slow process which I kept interrupting. Now I hope it finally works.
Not only is it failing, but also I am loosing my connection. This part of the message I am posting from my XP. Without figuring out if I lost my connection due to this uploading or some adverse "big brother" out there, I am going to have to shut down, power cycle and restart. I wish there was an easier way of sharing this video.

It must have uploaded since 9:30 this morning; but it is finally through. However, the page is now froze. What am I suppose to do with this? After loosing connectivity, I am anxious to shut this computer down and power cycle. It looks like this is the last Nero product I am ever going to buy. Having me use this filedropper.com service which took all day to upload the file you wanted was inconsiderate. Besides, this site is rigged so that I cannot even email the company.

OK. That does it! After uploading the file again, I can only say that this time it did not take as long; but there is still no link. I don't think filedropper.com is the personal link I am supposed to have. Therefore, after all this waste of time, I am uninstalling Nero, never buying another one of their products again.

    • Omega Tester, I don't know if that would have helped before this filedropper.com nonsense caused me to uninstall Nero on both my computers. As I reported earlier in this thread, the file was 3.06 GB.
    • Honestly, I don't know what the problem is. I have uploaded lots of files to filedropper.com and provided links to people in the forum. It should have absolutely zero effect on your system and is completely unrelated to Nero.

Perhaps you have a very slow internet connection. The fact that you had problems uploading to the other websites seems to substantiate this.

My request to use filedropper.com was my preference and has absolutely no implications in regards to the Nero software so please don't put the blame on Nero.

I have no idea why you need to link folders in any cloud space. A zip file is a single file with a .zip extension. Is your original a .zip file?

"Doll Face" is a 1945 movie I downloaded in Zip. Filedropper.com produced no links for me to forward to you to retrieve it. The page froze at 100% and clicking on the page did not bring up any links. Right now I am on my XP. On Windows 7 I have Torch Browser open, which has a Chrome platform. Omega Tester, you're worried about cloud space after monopolizing my system over this filedropper.com? I have three files downloading to my computer when I already had three that played. This mp2 file is on a disc already and shows as a still clip, not moving like a video at all. I have a disc that works in my computer; but I am not sure if it works in a DVD player. If you followed the thread I uninstalled Nero Multimedia 10 and Nero MediaHome after this business with filedropper.com. At 10 PM last night I was not going to go through all this.
    • Louis,

I joined this thread when I saw all of the filedropper business. Thanks for posting the link to the .zip. Both the MPEG2 and MPEG4 files play on my computer using Nero MediaHome, VLC Player, and Windows Media Player.

I uploaded the MPEG-4 file in both its original form and zipped. It appeared to me that you were having problems unzipping, so now you can see what should be the result of unzipping. Furthermore, you can check out the .mp4 without unzipping to make sure that it plays.

It would help to know exactly where the difficulty lies. Are you having problems unzipping files as the topic started?
    • Addendum

I forgot to mention that the extension on the MPEG-2 file can be changed from .mpeg to .mpg, making it more recognizable to Windows programs.
