Video and music going out of sync - how do I fix this?

As the topic states - I have a single song and various video clips from a popular PC Game that I am editing together. When assembling the piece I am able to get the action synchronized to the rhythm of the music, but it does not stay in sync. As I am working it changes, and the final product also will not export in sync.

How do I get the music and video to stay in sync? Any assistance offered would be greatly appreciated.

This is Nero Video version 12.5.4000

  • Are you working in Make Movie or Slide Show?

If you do all the editing first and then add your song, can you get it to sync? Obviously, if it's not in synch during editing, it's not going to be in sync after exporting.

  • I have not so much experience with Nero like Wther but I have edited video in different programs like Permiere, pinnacle studio and also aon DVD-recorders. It was every time the sam cause when I had synchro problems. If you edit in amarican NTFS system and play in PAL or oposite the synchronisation problem appears because of the different number of picture per second. you should assure the youre settings are correct

  • Hi David/Wither

I found this in Windows Media Player. Maybe worth a try to find out! ( Look under DVD and Video playback )

  • I'm here. I appreciate the help. It's an ongoing issue.

I have a moose of a PC, I would be surprised if that were the issue.

When I am attempting to sync the track I will line it up perfectly, and as the piece plays through it will suddenly not being synchronized. It seems to gradually "go" out of sync. It is not consistent.

I will notice the issue, and I will stop and try to adjust, and in the context of that small pause the sync will be fixed and then my new correction will be wrong. It seems to fluctuate literally as I am playing what I'm working on. Stopping to fix it sometimes actually corrects the problem and I don't see it again until I play the video from the beginning.

I do have various video sources but the problem doesn't seem to care which source it is - it will appear at any point regardless of the section.

Again, I do appreciate the assistance. Nero is very easy to use and get a decent result, I'd like to be able to continue with it.

  • There have been sync problems in various versions of Nero but those were generally after a burn.

I assume that you're not using the audio from the clips. If you haven't already, you might try deleting the audio.

  • This is happening as I work.

I will begin playback to review what I have done. As the playback continues there will come a point some time later in the video where I will I notice it is out of sync. If I then stop the playback and start is again it corrects the portion I am listening to. As I continue from that point the same thing will happen again. I will be watching this or that part of a video, it will be obviously out of sync, I will stop the playback and go a few seconds before the point I was at and start again and the sync is correct. Sometimes. Any of the matching I do could later be out of sync when I eventually export the video.

It seems to have something to do with how long Nero Video is running the clip, how far from the beginning of the video you are.

  • Are you talking about playback on the timeline?

Most sync problems in Nero relate to using the audio from the video. In your case, it appears you're trying to sync the video with an audio file you have imported but I'm not sure what characteristics in the video you're trying to sync with the audio. v12 doesn't have the "rhythm" matching feature in v2014 and 2015. Maybe you have to cut the imported file differently for each video?

You can send an e-mail to techsupport@nero.com but you need to be very specific about the steps you're taking on the timeline.

  • Well, I am playing the video. As I play it, it goes out of sync. I see the timing in the video is no longer where I placed it. If I stop, and click a few seconds before the point that just played out of sync, it adjusts itself to some extent. Then when I export the video there are portions that are out of sync again.

The sync is fluid, it changes as I play the video. It also changes upon export.

I am simply making a short thematic piece. It features video clips from a PC Game, the sound from those clips, and a single song in the background that lasts the duration. I am trying to sync up the visual events in the video clips from the game with the beat of the music. that's it. Nero Video is making that just about impossible.

  • As I said, v12 doesn't have the ability to sync to the rhythm (what a word) of an audio file. That ability was added in v14. I don't have much experience with it because very few people have asked about it.

Trying to sync video to an audio file that is independent of the audio in a video, is trial and error. You will probably have to edit the imported audio file that you're adding either to the music or narration track repeatedly in something like WaveEditor to get what you want. You would do that after you have completed all other editing.
