Video & Audio inputs

When recording video with Platinum 10, how do I set the audio input to be separate from the video input, please?

  • Hi Ian-

What do you mean by "recording?" Do you mean capturing with Nero Video?

Note that you can record the video with the audio and then separate it later in Nero Video.

  • Hi there.

    Yes, capturing video with Nero.

I want to capture via my webcam but record the audio via my separate (far superior) microphone. There doesn't seem to be a way to do this. I know I can separate the audio later but whilst the webcam is also recording audio, I get an odd noise. If I use the webcam software to switch its audio off, Nero only captures a couple of seconds of video then the video freezes and nothing more is recorded, despite the timer continuing.

So, I need Nero software to do what other software does and allow me to separate the inputs. :)

    Cheers.

  • What you're describing implies a different problem.

If the video you're capturing is copy protected, you won't be able to import it.

I don't know what would happen if you didn't shut off the audio.

If you can capture the video with the audio button set to "On," here's the basic procedure for doing what you want to do.

Assuming you're capturing your video to your hard drive, open Nero Video and select Make Advanced Movie. Click on Import, Import File and browse to and select your video.

After it's imported, drag and drop it unto Video track 1 of the timeline.

Right click on the video on the timeline and select Unlink video and audio.

Right click on the audio and select Remove from track.

With your microphone connected, click the Record button at the top of the timeline. Record your audio.

  • Wither,

the video I'm trying to film is live video of me in my audio booth, giving answers to a written interview. I think I'm safe from copyright. ;)

So, I also can't record the audio at a different time as I'd never get it to synch. I have to record the video and audio at the same time but with different inputs.

Anyway, I have found free software which has this simple preference included so I'll be trying that today. :)

    Thank you for your help.

    Cheers.

  • Success!

I used a video capturing software called Debut:

    http://www.nchsoftware.com/capture/in...

Then, used Audacity to clean up the audio, imported the video into Nero, stripped out the original audio and replaced with the cleaned. Hey presto, all done. :)

    Cheers.

  • Excellent.

At least Nero was helpful in accomplishing your goal. Although you used Audacity, Nero also has the free audio editing tool WaveEditor which you can download from nero.com. Up until v11, it was part of the Nero suites. I was very disappointed when Nero made it, and two other premium apps, free. It came down to dollars and cents on the bottom line.

Looking back through the thread, I now realize why you wanted to turn off the audio, in Nero Video, during the capture. I get so busy trying to help everybody that, sometimes, I don't stop to digest everything a person has said. :(

That said, I don't know why turning off the audio didn't allow you to do the capture. Maybe tomorrow, when I'm on my other system which has a web cam, I'll give it a try.

  • Wither,

I appreciate you taking any time to help. Thank you. :)

Yes, I have the Platinum 10 suite so I have the Wave Editor. Good to know. I'm just used to Audacity as it is what I've been using to edit my audiobooks.

Speaking of which, if you're interested in a copy of my latest, please let me know and I'll send you a code to pick it up for free since you've been so kind.

    • Wither, mate, have some coffee. :) This is a promotion for an audiobook. Heh. I'm not the voice of Sirius radio. And to get it up on YouTube I have to include some visuals.

      Cheers.
    • Hey Ian- at this time on Friday night, the only coffee I'm drinking is "coffee liqueur" (i.e., Kahlua) in my Black Russian (100 proof vodka). :)

I thought the snippet is the final product. Is the "voice of Sirius" something you put in there?

I'm done with the forum until tomorrow. Time to read the newspaper and enjoy my second Black Russian.

      Ciao!
