Voiceover audio always included when using Nero Recode 2014 to transcode to an MP4 file.

I recently upgraded Nero specifically to use the transcode feature of Nero Recode 2014 for Bluray discs. However, every disc I have tried, under all sorts of combinations always includes a voiceover track on the audio whenever the target is a MP4 file. If the target is MKV, then it does not do that.

  • This is one for Mister_M. Where is he? :)

I'm guessing since MKV is simply a container, that it's just passing the audio through because it doesn't have to be encoded. Emphasis is on guessing.

Note that if you open Options, Output, you can select the audio track that you want. If I remember correctly, that feature was problematic.

Rather than get myself into too much trouble, I recommend that you send an e-mail to techsupport@nero.com.

Please let us know what they have to say.

  • You are probably not able to select the correct track from your disc. Nero Recode seems to only show you the AC3 audio tracks and not the HD audio tracks. What you are hearing is a descriptive voiceover for the visually impaired or a commentary track.

I have a tech support ticket in for this as well. I want to know how to access the HD audio. In a previous version it was a additional purchase. That's fine, but they don't make it obvious on their website.

It's more work, and really should be taken care of by Recode but there is a way around it. Obtain TSmuxer and eac3to.

    1. Use TSMuxer to strip the correct audio from the disc. You are left with the video and audio components split on your hard drive.
    2. Use Eac3to to convert it to an AC3 track.
    3. Use TSMuxer to bring you video and AC3 track back together.
    4. Now feed it back to Recode as a video and convert it the way you want.

This is a lot of extra work for no reason as Recode should be able to do this for you. If it wont or can't, there are other utilities that can do it for you. Most likely can't mention them here. They are not as fast as or friendly as Recode.

Recode isn't the only game in town.
