Wave Editor connects to internet even though update service is disabled

I have been using Nero Wave Editor - and ONLY that, no suite or anything - for quite some time now and never noticed anything strange about it. Today however, shortly after I started the program, I saw in Windows' Resource Monitor that Wave Editor connected to the internet, to some site, sending & receiving a few bytes/s. I had Nero's update service disabled right from the beginning (months ago), and it still is disabled, so why the hell does a program with pure offline functionality still connect to the internet? That's super shady and I don't like it one bit.
