What settings do I choose in Nero16 to make a DVD-Video of my holiday photos?

My DVD video project looks washed out when viewing it on the TV. It looks OK viewing it on my computer.
1. In recording format options, which are the best settings to use?
2. Encoder quality fine tuning. Should the speed be 100?. The default setting is 50.
3. Audio format- the default setting is automatic. Should I change this?
4. All my photos are jpeg. Should I chose this setting in the applications settings-save-snapshot pictures?
5. What is the difference if I use AVCHD-DVD or DVD-Video?
I have previously worked with Nero9 and had good results.

  • Hello Rosemarie-

The AVCHD-DVD will allow you to use formats above the 720x limitiation of DVD-Video. However, it requires you to use a blu-ray player for playback.

I don't know of any recording format settings which would change what you're seeing.

I wonder what's different about your computer monitor and TV resolutions. Are you changing the aspect ratio on your TV?

  • Hi Wither,
    Thank you for responding.
There are 2 differences between making my latest DVD and the last one.
    1. I upgraded to windows 10 from windows 7.
    2. Nero9 did not work very well on windows 10, so I then upgraded to Nero16.
The TV is still the same on the same settings.
I have done some short test projects and burned them to my computer hard drive to save wasting DVD discs. I have changed the encoder quality fine tuning from the default 50% to 100%.
I have also changed the fast coding from 1Pass to 2Pass.
I have not noticed any significant difference, however I think maybe 100% encoder quality may look a little better, but it is not obvious to see.
I think I will buy some more discs, and do another test run using the encoder at 100%.
I never had this problem with Nero9. I just hit the burn button when my project was ready to go and everything worked out fine.

  • As I said, I don't think any of those options is going to change what you're seeing. Of course, that's just an opinion. The options you've tried, such as the 2-pass, sometimes helps with sharpness.

I don't know what the difference would be in using either v9 or v2016. I have both but haven't tested. Since you're using DVD-Video, the specification hasn't changed.

If you use Nero MediaHome to create your slide show and then burn to DVD-Video, do you get the same results?

Note that you can address this to tech support using the contact form at nero.com, support, contact, technical support.

  • No, I haven't looked at Nero MediaHome at all. I have all my photos saved on my hard drive and also have them backed up on to an external drive. When making my project, I import my photos directly from my hard drive.
Are you suggesting that I make a slideshow in MediaHome, and burn it from there?
I really haven't played with this section in nero.
I will give it a try, however, I think I will have to put my project on hold for a while as we are going overseas soon.
I will let you know how I go, but it may be after my holiday.
    Thanks Rosemarie
