I’m frustrated

why does nero recode version 17 stall with 36 seconds left to completing a task

This application used to work fine, but has recently begun to stall with just a few seconds left to complete the task. I have tried leaving the app running for 48 hours to see if the problems resolves itself (it doesn't). I have tried re-installing the product and this has made no difference. I regularly make recovery images of the hard drive and have even tried resetting the computer to a state that predates this problem occurring for the first time - but still no luck.

    Do you get any error messages?

    Have you cleaned up your temporary files lately? I suggest going to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup.

    Run it. When it says how much space it can gain, check the boxes for Temporary Files and Recycle Bin. Let it run. When finished, reboot. If you have an SSD and Win 8 or Win 10, the Trim function should automatically clean up the garbage. If you have a HDD, you shouldn't have to do anything after the reboot but you can always run a defrag.

    Try again with Recode.

    I have tried all that you suggest without success. The target drive is 2 gb with 1 gb free.

    No error messages, the countdown timer just stops at 36 seconds but the app still says it is encoding. It just doesn't finish the task - and stopping it simply loses the data files that has already been written.

  • First, go to the Nero ControlCenter and run the check for updates. The only update to v2016 fixed problems similar to yours in Recode.

    If that doesn't resolve it:

    You didn't say, but I'll assume that you're recoding a video file to a different format.

    I also assume that the file is not copy protected or copy protection has not been stripped with other software.

    If you're doing what I surmised, import the file into Make Advanced Movie in Nero Video. Drag and drop it on the timeline. Select Export, Export to File. Select the same video format that you're selecting in Recode and export it. Does that work?

    How large is the file? Would you care to share it with us so we can try the Recode operation.

  • I am trying to rip unprotected content from a DVD to the hard drive. The files are too large to send.

    I have had success with this process in the past, the problem is a recent occurrence.

    I am wondering if the registry has been corrupted in some way.

  • Did you do the check for updates? In this case, it shouldn't make any difference but you would want all the updates.

    Is this a DVD-Video disc that you're saving to your hard drive as a DVD-Video? If so, you don't need to recode it. You can create a folder on your hard drive with an appropriate name and simply copy the video_ts folder on the disc to that folder.

    Would you provide a screenshot of the Recode window which shows all the settings just before you're ready to run the job?
