I’m confused

Why can't you toggle inbetween burning digital media on PAL or NTSC, and why is there a limit on toggling between them (I read somewhere)?

Hi there. My Nero Video, when about to burn has automatically selected that I burn my MP4 media to PAL format. How can I select how to burn the MP4 file into an NTSC formatted disc? Also, how can I toggle between them both. I hear somewhere that you are only allowed to toggle 5 times before it sticks with the last option and locks on to that option for good. If this is true, why do they only give you 5 chances? Why can't you toggle and switch between burning onto PAL or NTSC format whenever you choose and at how long you like?

  • James- I don't know where you are. If most of your material is NTSC, then you should set Nero Video to that. To do that, whether you're in the Content screen or Editing screen, select Options, Recording Format Options. In Video Mode, select NTSC (don't select a country with NTSC, just NTSC).

From that point on, if you happen to be using video that is primarily PAL, when you go to the Menu editing screen, Nero will advise you that most of your material is PAL and will ask you if that's the way you want to proceed.

The 5 chances option refers to changing the region of your burner. You can do that up to 5 times but the last time is irreversable.

    Hi James,
you can switch between PAL and NTSC as often as you want when burning DVDs in Nero Video. The limitation you are refering to is related to the playback of commercial DVDs as they have a so-called region code. See details here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_regi...

  • I’m sad
I'm sorry. But people that don't know these smallest of video editing details should not be using the software.

  • I don't think that's a fair statement. People, from teenagers to 80 year olds, have cameras, smartphones and other gadgets that record video and, oftentimes, the devices don't come with video editing/burning software or the software that is available doesn't do what they want. What else are they going to do? There is a learning curve to using Nero and any other similar software. However, this particular question is a technical question beyond just doing editing or burning and I wouldn't expect the average user, including myself, to have knowledge of this subject.
