Will the October update to Nero Video include Nero 12 Video? Release Notes?

Nero employee GeraldG
said, "Nero was able to reproduce this problem with certain file formats.
Handling of video files will be improved in the next online update for Nero Video, which is scheduled for mid/end October.
Importing of video files should be much improved by then " in topic
file import is very slow

A few of the Nero 12 Video bugs were addressed in Nero 2014 Video when it was released. Most were not. Will they be addressed in the upcoming update?

Also, will there be an update to Nero 12 Video that fixes the existing bugs.

And, finally, will Release Notes be posted so that it is clear what has been added, improved, or fixed?

Note: Unlike my last question, these are not rhetorical questions. Also, unlike my previous question, this one is directed at the Nero employees participating in this forum. So, please try to resist the temptation to respond if you are not a Nero employee.

Since the 19 Nero employees "participating" in this forum have chosen to ignore the question as posed above, let me pose a reduced version.

There are many aspects to the aspect ratio difficulties in Nero Video. One is documented in the topic More Aspect Ratio Issues? that begins,
"Using the recommended Automatic DVD-Video settings and choosing 16:9 Movie Options results in a 4:3 DVD if the sample pictures are dragged to the timeline on the Video Edit screen. Same for sample pictures with transitions. And, backgrounds. It's all true for NV11, NV12, and NV2014." More details and pictures are posted there.

So, will this aspect of the Nero Video aspect ratio problems be fixed in the upcoming update in Nero 2014 Video? Nero 12 Video? Nero 11 Video?

  • Since the now 20 Nero employees "participating" in this forum have chosen to ignore the question as posed above, let me pose a really simple question.

I received an email today informing me,"The audioeffects problem status:
our development department has started working on this. This means it's still in progress."

No date and no specificity about which of the many Nero Video audio effects he is talking about. These problems have existed for a very long time.

So, Nero employees, do any of you know which, if any, of the Nero Video audio effects defects will be fixed in the upcoming update? If any, which Nero Video versions will be fixed?

Note: Please try to resist the temptation to respond if you are not a Nero employee.

  • This is wild. Certainly, Nero didn't release a NEW version of Video (as is 2014) WITHOUT FIRST addressing and correcting all previous issues in Video or Vision? Can someone present a clear answer to this?

I wasn't aware of all of the audio problems in Video 12, but I've yet to import a Dolby Digital AC-3 2.0 or 5.1 file into Nero Video 12 without its need to 're-render' it. It usually does well with the .TS and .M2TS video portion of the HD file, with 100% SmartRendering. But I'm using a NON-updated Video 12 -- updating to newer versions of 12 puts an end to that, so I stick with v12.0.3000

My 1920x1080p (30p) and 1920x1080i (60i) almost always load into Video 12.0.3000 with 100% SmartRendering for the video. But this is one of the only versions of Nero Vision/Video that will do this. I recently bought TMPEnc's Authoring Works 5 (for the 'popup' menu support, etc.) but found that NONE of my video files will meet its very strict SmartRender guidelines. Not even 720p files, which Nero Video ALWAYS recognizes as compliant.

I've learned how to make my own custom link buttons and frames (using Photoshop) to use in Nero Video 12, but for the life of me, can't find the directory where IMPORTED CLIP ART would be stored. Anybody know where this is located? Nero Video 12 doesn't import user clipart because of a bug, so I'd like to copy it there.
    • Tom:

The work-around for the clip art was provided by Octojay in the old forum. Place your images here: D:\Program Files (x86)\Nero\Nero 11\NeroContent\GraphicObjects\Bubbles (your drive letter, etc. may vary) here. Then, choose Bubbles when customizing your menu. (This particular problem has been fixed in Nero 2014. If you haven't already seen it, you might enjoy My list of Nero 12 Platinum problems.).

I and others have reported bugs in the Express Audio Effects and the Advanced Reverberation Audio Effect. As I recall, there are also issues with .ac3 files. The comment that I received from Tech Support was actually the result of them searching through my emails looking for a recent issue involving the Stylize video effects.

You might consider opening new topics for your issues to keep them from getting buried here.!

  • A so complex software as nero video will NEVER be 100% error-free - so adressing all previous problems is not possible.

Just look for windows - so you would like to say, that microsoft shall not release windows 8 before all problems of windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000 and even Windows 95/98 are fixed?
    Don't be silly.

And: Its always the questions, if it are really bugs - e.g. for the SmartRendering:
For the first Nero 12 versions, we get complaints by customers, that the burned bds of nero video are not playing in some special bd-players - the reasons was that the data was not 100% compliance.
So, we changed the rules and now force a recoding even for small problems - so now the people how had problem with the players are glad - but you are not.

    Jens:
In an earlier comment, you said, "As the work is still in progress, it is not possible at the moment to say exactly, when the fix will be available and for what versions it will be available.
"Sorry, but no employee here is an clairyocant
    "

Unbelievable! I saw that another user in another thread commented on your sarcasm, so I'll just add a "black star" also for your response here. The mere idea that a software company would operate without task lists and schedules is simply preposterous. So, there is someone, somewhere that surely knows what is being worked on, who is working on it, when it is supposed to be completed, what versions will be affected, etc.

I HAVE SPENT A GREAT DEAL OF MY TIME DOCUMENTING THE DEFECTS IN THE AUDIO EFFECTS OF NERO VIDEO BOTH IN THE OLD FORUM AND IN EMAILS TO TECH SUPPORT. OTHERS HAVE ALSO. THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR TECH SUPPORT RESPONSE IS THAT IT IS THE FIRST INDICATION TO ME THAT THESE DEFECTS HAVE EVEN BEEN ACKNOWLEDGED. AND, LET ME JUST ADD THAT THEY ARE GLARING, EASILY REPLICATED BUGS!

Please reconsider your reply to this issue or have someone more knowledgeable about the Nero process respond. It seems to me that if an update is being released this month, it should have already been completed and in some sort of testing phase. In other words, Release Notes should probably be available now.
I understand Nero has a "Quality Assurance" department. Perhaps, they know what's going on?

Note to other users: The following image is provided copyright free. Feel free to download it and use it where appropriate.

    • Omega-Tester:
Before it can be defined, in what update a fix could be included, first the root cause of problem must be found.
As written: Currently, they are working on it. When they found what exactly the problem is, then it can be decided in what updates it can be included.

I don't know how deep your knowledge in programming it - but when you are hunting for wired bugs, it is nearly impossible to say how long it will take.
Maybe you find the problem in a few hours - or maybe it takes days, weeks,...
Maybe also a result could be, that there is a design-problem and some basic structures need to be changed.

      Lets be hypothetical:
      Best case:
Tomorrow, the programmer finds out the bug-fix is really small - for example, just one line is wrong.
Then, it would be discussed, what the riscs would be, when this fix is also included in the next update.
If the result would be, that there are no additional risks included, the new version could be rebuild with this fix and so it could be included in this update.

      Worst case:
It turns out, that elementary redesign of data-structures, interfaces or components are required:
In this case, it would take some time...

And this is what I want to say with: "but no employee here is an clairyocant" .
At the current time, nobody here can make a definitive answer, if this will be fixed in the next update or not.

You have asked why nobody answered to your question - and now you see why.
If I had wrote: "It will be included", and then it would be not included, you would be angry.
If I had wrote: "It will not be included", you will also would be asked: "And when exactly it will be fixed?". Then agian, you would get no answer and again complains, why nobody is answering...

But OK, i see what i made was wrong - I just tried to give you an open and honest answer.
I will stop doing this and only answer to components I am directly responsible for..

But then don't complain about getting no answer!
    • Jens:
      Wow!!!
Let's just begin with the audio effects defects in Nero Video. Without getting into all of the other users who have experienced and reported the problems, just take a moment to review the following sequence of events:
20121017 - I created the topic Nero12 Video. Audio Reverb NOT!
20121210 - My email to Tech support: I am writing to report that the audio effects in Nero 12 Video are ineffective. From information on the forum, I gather that this issue has been reported before for Nero 11 Video and possibly for Nero 12 Video. I was first made aware of the problem while reading a forum post: ...
20121212 - Tech Support email, "We forwarded the problem to our development department for deeper analysis.
Please be patient, we will inform you as soon as we've got an answer."
Now,10 months later, they and you say, "Currently, they are working on it. ..."
Really? And, let me point out that the only reason the audio effects came up was that the Tech Support person came across it while trying unsuccessfully to find status information on a very recent issue involving Stylize video effects.

Now, let's turn to one of my favorites - Kwik Media Duration Confusion
20120524 - I added the topic in the old forum.
20120525 - lila-asta, a Nero employee, confirmed the bug, saying, "Sounds like a pretty bad bug ...".
20120711 - I posted that KM version 1.14.12000.23.100 appears to have fixed this problem.
      20120726 - I posted that , "It's back! ..."
20121001 - I posted that, "This issue seems to have been resolved in the latest update that accompanied the release of Nero 12."
If you review that issue, I am sure that as a programmer, you will recognize that lila-asta had underestimated the ridiculousness of this error getting "into the wild" when she called it "pretty bad". Right? Additionally, this particular bug had been around for a very long time before I noticed it.
And, afer all of that, it took 5 months to get it fixed correctly.

One more for good measure - my personal favorite - Fatal error received updating NeroBackItUp 12
20120930 - I sent an email reporting, "Found 3 updates via Control Console totaling 105.49 MB. Installing these updates resulted in a "Fatal error during installation" dialog. Screenshot attached." (with additional information).
20121008 - Tech Support email, "During the installation of BackItUp, a conflict occurs with the Windows Firewall. Here a copy of the error message:", ... referring me to a Microsoft site!
20121008 - I replied to Tech Support, "Thank you for responding to my email. I suspect that the difficulty is
arising from the fact that my Nero suite is installed on my N:, not C:. When can I expect a new update?"
20121009 - Tech Support responded, "Could you please kindly tell us the status of the update problem in Nero ControlCenter after followed the steps in our last email?"
20121009 - I replied, "Evidently, you did not receive my reply to your last email or I did not make myself clear. So, as I indicated in my reply yesterday, the problem appears to be that the installation program is failing while trying to add the BackItUp program to the Windows Firewall Exception List because it is specifying the wrong drive:" ... with even more following!
20121014 - I started topic Fatal Error During Update of BackItUp 12
20121017 - Tech Support responded, "The reported update problem could be reproduced if BackItUp has not been installed on the default path. Our team is currently working on a solution for this update issue. We will contact you again as soon as this solution is available."
20121205 - Tech Support sends an update email, "The new update for BackItUp has finally been released for the Nero ControlCenter. Please check if you can now normally install the update on your computer."
20121205 - I replied, "Thank you for your notification. I am fairly certain that this is the first time I have actually received a promised email from tech support informing me that an issue has been resolved. Kudos to you! In the interim, I removed Nero from my N: and installed it on C: to avoid problems. ..."
That is, a fatal error caused by installing an "update" takes over 2 months to correct! Moreover, the people reading the log didn't recognize the problem was a Nero error even after it was pointed out to them! It's quite unbelieveable.

Turning now to this business of my programming experience and your software engineering expertise. Let me just say that there are some roads you don't want to go down. So, please back off from the "lessons."
As for your response starting with, 'And this is what I want to say with: "but no employee here is an clairyocant" . ', I think you may simply want to reconsider. You cannot possibly be talking about a professional organization.
And, finally, let me just say that I think only answering questions about things you are familiar with would be an excellent idea! Now, if we could just get a little participation from Nero employees with a variety of fields of expertise, that would help enormously.
If you would like more instances of my attempts to deal with Nero, just ask. I've got two years worth.

Considering the answer of jens, I can't really believe the quality assurance at Nero is working.
Basically there should be the task to support the last versions (10/11/12) of the SW suite. This includes collecting the error reports and classifying the relevance for these versions.
If this is too much work for the devel company they should expand or management should decide to upgrade old versions to the newest for free. The latter would allow to support the latest version only ( as is true for chat support already :( ).

Well, Nero employees, here's another tidbit demonstrating two separate aspect ratio difficulties from Nero 12 (and earlier) and remaining in Nero 2014. It also, shows a "hang" condition that happens when an attempt is made to write a DVD-Video with no menu and four "dolphin" sample pictures as the content. The dolphins have the first four Stylize video effects applied in order. See the second image below. Will any of this be fixed in the "October update"?

Sorry, this answers and comment sound as weird as some years ago, the time before Nero AG decided to establish a quality department.
To me it shows that there isn't really a concept for software quality until now.
A software production team should be able to supervise his own module and the interface to the OS used.

BTW: Don't use the argument "Make it better, let us know". This situation we had some years ago without Nero's willingness to allow me to do. :(

  • Again, we here have the case, that your problem is system-depended or file-depend
I have tested flv, mkv, mpg and mp4 - all files works.

    First a question:
After dragging a file here, first a dialog appears:

Does this dialog appear for you? (Or have you selected: "Remember my Selection" last time?)
If yes: What have you selected here?

Second question: Have you tried different flv, mkv and mpg files?

Third: So, you are dragging the complete folder, right?
What happens if you drag only one file?

This is a very illustrative case.

    I make a claim.
A counter-claim is made. I am asked questions, etc., that take up my time.
    I provide my evidence.
That evidence is ignored. More questions come at me!

    So, here we go:

When a file is accepted, the dialog you have shown appears.

When a file is not accepted, the dialog I have shown appears.

I have tried many files on an individual basis. That is precisely when they fail!

As shown above, if I group the files into a single folder and drop that onto the start screen target, all of the files are accepted.

In addition, if I import or drop them individually into either the Content screen or the Video Edit screen, they are accepted.

  • First: What evidences are ignored?
An screenshot of an error message doesn't help much to reproduce an error.
As already written: For me, it works. Until now, I cannot reproduce your problem.

In your first posting, you regarding to this problem, you have not wrote anything about folders - you only wrote in the screenshot: "Dragging most video files here doesn't work".

So, I started to drag different FILE - and it works.
Now, it seems to be that this problem only occurs, when you drag FOLDERS, is this correct?

This again shows, how important it is, to report problems in a way all steps could be reproduced

Of cause I see that there is a problem - but I need to understand how to reproduce it - a problem, that cannot be reproduced is hardly to fix.

So again: Do I understand this correctly?
Dragging the single files work - only dragging the folder (with the same files) does not work?

  • I have a minute or two to "clarify" the above bizarreness!

I've noticed that someone actually downloaded the SealBarking.avi file I put on hotfile.com. I'm going to guess that they had no problem dropping it onto the Nero 2104 Video start screen target. The reason is that I didn't either!

Here's a list of quick observations among many others I could make:

I copied and pasted the SealBarking.avi video. The copy was accepted.

I changed the name by replacing the 'g' with other letters and the file was accepted. (SealBarkink.avi would be an example).

Adding and subtracting letters to the filename also allowed it to be accepted.

Moreover, adding a letter to any of the containing folder names would allow the file to be accepted.

One final note on the SealBarking.avi video. I renamed it SealBarkink.avi and downloaded the file I put on hotfile.com into the same folder. The downloaded SealBarking.avi was accepted when dropped onto the target. Next, I deleted the downloaded file and renamed the original back to SealBarking.avi. It is now accepted when dropped!

Some things to keep in mind:

    1. The business about adding/subtracting letters to the filename seems to be generally true.
    2. As said from the start, the files can be imported on dropped on or imported to the Content screen or the Video Edit media area.
    3. If the folder containing the "problem" file is dropped onto the target, the file is imported without any name changes, etc.

    That's it for now.

    BeBiMa:

I really have no idea which files are fragmented, etc. What I do know is that the same file that is rejected when dropped onto the Nero 2014 Video start screen target can be dropped onto and accepted by:

The Nero 2014 Video Content screen title area.
The Nero 2014 Video "Video Edit" screen media area.
The Nero 2014 Recode start screen target (similar to Nero 2014 Video).
    The Nero MediaHome desktop shortcut.
    The VLC Player desktop shortcut.
    Etc.

In addition, there's the matter of a single letter being added to the filename or any of enclosing folder names "fixing" everything. It's all very strange, but probably has a very simple explanation.

I would think that the most efficient way to investigate this problem would be by examining the software, maybe comparing the Recode "target code" to the Nero Video "target code" and coming up with some more direct tests. And, I was hoping that Jens, a Nero programmer, would come across a similar situation and look into it. He seems to have lost interest. Maybe one of the other Nero employees will respond.

Unfortunately, no one seems to have the will to stick with things like this.

    Pictorial aid follows:

    • As you are switching from different scenarious and now from nero video to nero recode, I am not able to follow you anymore.

If you have clear instructions how to reproduce a problem in video or recode, please make a new thread for video and/or recode. If I can reproduce a problem, I will forward this to the developers of nero video or nero recode.

As I am not part of nero video nor nero recode team, I cannot work directly on this.

  • I’m frustrated by the stereotype answer
    jens:
The instruction is quite simple. It should be there at Nero's since years, exactly from the time a QA department was installed ( or did they refuse to do so? ).

Just examine how videos are converted in Vision/Video and Recode.
Which parts are common to both, which are different?
What are the effects of the different parts? Where are difficencies ( in the OS also, which are known )?

I know this isn't easy testable, but more or less verifiable by state of the art methods of QA.

  • BeBiMa:
The problem is: When following the instructions, it worked for me. Also, of cause QA tested this.
So, it seems not be so simple..

Can you reproduce the problem on your system?

    jens:
I suppose you did not get the point of my argument. (This was true some years ago, too. ;) )

It is not a case for testing, but for verification and code inspection!
This process should have been triggered by the QA department after reports about those different behaviours of Nero components as result of operations regarded equivalent by a normal user:
    - conversion of a video on the fly by NeroVision/NeroVideo conversion by NeroRecode
    - dragging video files to various places in the GUI
    - renaming files ( this doesn't change the file! )
    - ....

Maybe you don't understand further. But this would confirm my observation, that there isn't really a QA at Nero AG.

    Hello! Is anybody home?

Well, it's October 21st, and there has been pretty much no response to this topic from Nero.

Will any of these issues be fixed in the rumored October Nero Video update? Are there any Release Notes available yet?

Or, has the rumored October update been put off until a later date? If so, when?

  • From NERO:
And: Its always the questions, if it are really bugs - e.g. for the SmartRendering:
For the first Nero 12 versions, we get complaints by customers, that the burned bds of nero video are not playing in some special bd-players - the reasons was that the data was not 100% compliance. So, we changed the rules and now force a recoding even for small problems - so now the people how had problem with the players are glad - but you are not.

Maybe I'm just not smart enough to understand your logic behind this reasoning. In any case, wouldn't it have been a simpler solution ... which would satisfy everyone ... if you just have allowed the option to re-render, or not re-render, video files that may not be 100% compliant video files?

Put the "Smart" into "Renderer" by allowing the user to choose the level of compliance. An "Expert Mode", perhaps.
    • I'm not sure what prompted that Nero statement, but I'm quite sure the "SmartEncoding" issues with version 12 mainly involved the encoding of DVDs - things that had worked fine using version 11. Just a few clicks of the mouse in the old English or German forums will verify that. When the "fix" was applied with the 12.5 update, it was a hack that changed the rules and, in effect, made "SmartEncoding" incredibly like "StupidEncoding." In any case, Nero 2014 didn't make it any better.
