Windows Task scheduler cannot be started. Please check if the Task Scheduler is active

Xp, SP3, fully up to date, Task scheduler is active, but I cannot run Backitup (Nero10). I chose ONCE to run at a future time and before that time arrived, as soon as I said GO. the error message "Windows Task scheduler cannot be started. Please check if the Task Scheduler is active" came up. Other parts of Nero !0 do work . . . . very discouraging.

  • One thing to try ... which I found with a Google search ... somehow these need to be ticked for the scheduler to work properly?

Got to start cmd and type msconfig then go to services and check that your 'windows event log ' and 'windows event collector' has a tick mark or not if not check it and apply.

  • Normally, it is a kind of situation you correct by starting the service Taskschd.msc manually.
You can start the Task Scheduler MMC snap-in by using a single command from the command line or by using the Windows interface. Task Scheduler can also be started by double-clicking on the Taskschd.msc file in the %SYSTEMROOT%\System32 folder. if not,
I suggest that you download and install the current free version of Nero Backitup 2014 on your system with the aim of testing if this issue could be reproduced on your system using Nero Backitup 2014. Make sure you run windows update and its components before moving ahead. Here is the download link to BIU 2014.
